New York Knicks executive Larry Johnson has a different take on the racial fire thats recently ignited over Clippers owner Donald Sterling, looking at the broader picture to make his main point: Its high time blacks started their own league, he said.
In a tweet, the former star player wrote: Black people your Focusing on the wrong thing. We should be focusing on having our own, Own team own League! To For Self!!
Its not the first time that Mr. Johnson drew critical attention to the fact that the NBA is headed primarily by white executives and played mostly by black athletes, the New York Post reported. In 1999, he said during the NBA Finals between the Knicks and Spurs that, Weve got a lot of rebellious slaves on this [Knicks] team.
He followed that up with an explanation of his use of the word slaves: We dont go with the mainstream, he said, the New York Post reported.
Mr. Johnson was hired two years ago to help out with Knicks business operations.
He sent his tweet out about the same time the NBA announced it was kicking off an investigation into Mr. Sterling, who allegedly complained to his girlfriend about posting photos of him with black people on her Instagram account.
Mr. Sterlings alleged statements

Well, I stopped watching the NBA about the same time Larry Bird retired. I doubt I will start when Larry Johnson’s idea gets traction.
I believe it was heavyweight boxing champ Sonny Liston who gave a good demonstration of swimming on the old show called superstars.
Exactly.... In the absence of Mr. Sterling’s comments, there would be many calling for Mr. Johnson’s resignation.
That was Joe Frazier.
Maybe only race-matching folks should attend games? And buy their stuff? And what about mixed race folks, who half-match? Can they be in the league? Can they buy stuff? And what about - can they be from Africa? Or black but born in Norway? STUUUUUUUUPID.
Yes, here in the 21st century, segregate sports. That’s the way forward. “Sigh”
Calls for “all-black basketball league”..........
That’s racist!!!!!!!! BIG TIME!
By the way, I thought we already had a 98% all-black basketball league.
I thought it already was all black.
Yeah, CJ!, Why start a whole new league when you can just kick Wonder Bread outta the one we already got?!
Freakin' fat racists...
Chuck Cooper, Nat ‘Sweetwater’ Clifton and Earl Lloyd would be upset. Do you think blacks would pay to see inferior players? The NBA would get people from Europe to play.
I have heard a theory that one of the reasons pitching is so strong right now in MLB is that a higher %s of athletic tall lanky white kids have started to opt for baseball instead of trying to compete with athletic lanky black kids in basketball at younger and younger ages. Now there are all these pens full of 95mph+ arms.
Freegards
Why stop with basketball, the same should apply to football and watch as black sports go the way of boxing.
Thank you for getting it right for me.
I don’t watch the NBA now and I wouldn’t watch them twice as much if Larry Johnson gets his way.
The WNBA is about 50% white. The Connecticut Sun is owned by the Mohegan tribe.
I know that they can certainly count on Spike Lee to get courtside seats.
Just goes to show that a lot of blacks’ ultimate dream is to reverse the roles, and have whites be their slaves.
So Larry Johnson is starting his own league?? I don’t understand in a free market country calling for a product, invest and put your money in to it.
Interesting to see the call for segregation...
It will be interesting to see how many white fans flee the NBA as a result of this lynch mob?
I’ve been done with the NBA since free agency and gangster ballers like Rodman...no team loyalty, etc...
Funny thing, if the Clipper players have had issue with the owner, why play there? Since his private comments/thoughts have come to light, they are still collecting a check. Show me the money...
Power...money...that’s what this s all about.
Why not an all-Black country .oh, wait, there are dozens of them in Africa, so why all the complaining over here?
