SEOUL, South Korea South Korea's prime minister offered to resign Sunday over the government's handling of a deadly ferry sinking, blaming "deep-rooted evils" and irregularities in a society for a tragedy that has left more than 300 people dead or missing and led to widespread shame, fury and finger-pointing.

We were in the Korean grocery store, H-Mart, in Dallas earlier today. The ferry disaster was being talked about over the PA system and they were holding a fund-raiser for the victim’s families. It’s a big deal even here.
CNN reports he has resigned:
Jindo, South Korea (CNN) — South Korea’s prime minister announced his resignation Sunday morning, taking responsibility for the slow initial response to a ferry’s sinking that has left nearly 200 dead with scores more still missing. http://www.cnn.com/2014/04/26/world/asia/south-korea-ship-sinking/
She wasn’t responsible for the accident. Makes no sense. Just like they’re arresting 15 crew members even though it wasn’t their fault. It’s the captain and whomever his immediate underlings’ fault for not being at the helm as required.
It is a horrible tragedy, especially given most of the victims were kids.
A head of state resigning over a ferry disaster... What can a ferry cost? A few lives and $50 million or so?
What would a head of state do if it was thousands of lives and $Trillions, like a 0’care disaster?
The Vice-Principal of the school that organized the field trip for those hundreds of students also committed suicide afterwards.
From Reddit, his suicide note:
Here is his suicide note:
“While 200 (students) are dead or alive, it is too much for my strength to live alone.
Give me full responsibility. I was the one who carried forward with the class trip. Cremate my body and spread my ashes near the sunken boat site. In the afterlife, maybe I will be the teacher to the students whose bodies have not been found.”
Failures of the previous administration and all that.
That is tragic.

Take President Park Geun-hye with you! She’ll probably blame the ferry sinking on Japan and WWII.
Ed Schultz @WeGotEd 1h POTUS needs to confront South Korea about dumping cheap steel in the market killing American jobs..I've been to Lorain Ohio..
Would that our officials would have 1/4 tht sense of honor.
Totally disgusting.
The political leader of a country is not responsible for everything that goes wrong.
If you believe that than you are a fascist.
It's a Confucian act. When disaster befalls the group, the head figure is expected to take full responsibility, because the head figure (ruler of the country, CEO of the business, principal of the school, father/grandfather of the home, etc.) has responsibility for the well-being of all those underneath him--or in this case, her.
For example, in 1985, the CEO of JAL resigned the day after an airplane disaster killed 550+ passengers on a jumbo jet, even though he had nothing to do with the crash. If he had been a samurai in the Edo era, he would have disemboweled himself.
Wow.
Yes
Wow you nailed it?
Or wow you are a jerk?
Wow that I (or someone) is not a fascist for understanding why the PM did this, even though it wasn’t his fault?
A fascist thinks only a fascist can protect people from all bad things. So we need to give the fascist leader complete control.
Get it?
