ANGOLA, La. – They're often thrown like rag dolls or risk being gored by bucking bulls and broncos. But in those few seconds in the spotlight of the rodeo, they are part of the world again.

Some of Louisiana's most violent criminals are the stars of the Angola Prison Rodeo, the nation's longest-running prison rodeo that this year celebrates 50 years. The event has grown from a small "fun" event for prisoners into big business, with proceeds going into the Louisiana State Penitentiary Inmate Welfare Fund for inmate education and recreational supplies.

Ariana Stozzi has a “ranch” and has a book about discovering yurself through horses. The book essentially says that animals, horses in particular, will tell yu the kind of person you are by how they interact with you.

It is all a crock as I know some truly awful people that are amazing with animals and some truly wonderful people who are eaten by them.

Soooo, with Strozzi’s theory, I thought we could do away with the judicial system, as horses supposedly can tell whether we are good or bad. Place the defendent on the bronc, and if he doesn’t buck off, NOT GUITLY! Simple.

I mention this as the Angola rodeo, which was part of the story line in “Stir Crazy” (”That’s right. We bad.”) reminded me of one of my many wonderful ideas.

I look forward to the royalty checks.

My wife and kids go to the Angola prison rodeo every year. Many of my friends do too. It's a good place to pick up quality hand made furniture and other hand made items cheap.

On a side note, Angola is a self sufficient prison. The prisoners raise all their own food and the rodeo provides a large income. The quality of the meat from the cows they raise is so high that the beef is sold on the open market and the prisoners are feed cheaper meat. The Angola Prison Rodeo even has a float in the parades during the Mardi Gras parade season. And of course it's an old fashion chuck wagon pulled by horses with a few other riders riding horse back accompanying it. I don't know if the riders are prisoners.
