If I recall correctly, at the time of Obama’s grandmother’s death, there were reports that his wife and daughters had never met his grandmother. The family has some secrets and strained relationships, it would appear.

When Obama went to Hawaii to pay a last visit to his dying grandmother—and perhaps to speed up the process, or to search the house for a paper copy of his birth certificate that has been said to be there—he neglected to take his wife or daughters, even though this would be their last chance to meet her.
He did this, even though back then they were pretending to be one big happy family that vacationed together.
It’s pretty clear that he doesn’t give a damn about any of his relatives, or his wife, or his daughters. Or, probably, his dog. It’s too much trouble for him even to PRETEND to care.
