I too got lightly nipped in the face by my Malinois , when she was young . My offense : I blew in her ear .... Be very careful with young and vital Malinios , some can be hair trigger . They mellow with age , into the dearest creatures imaginable . Truly your best friend . Just don’t f with them :^)
Hand always ready between muzzle and face. No exceptions.

Officer has face truncated by dog. (That he’d shoot on sight at any other time.)

Curious if the camera or the phone might be emitting a high frequency noise that upset the dog.

No kidding. Dogs are not primates people. All dogs bite.
Don't extend your hand to a dog, that is not a friendly gesture to a canine.
And don't think they like being hugged. They don't.

An arm over a dog, let alone around his neck, is considered an act of dominance. Stupid move by the cop that was sure to bring some response.

Far better to stick with nice, large, impressive, friendly dogs, like Great Danes.

Poodle Attacks Pit Bull
A local man was charged after his poodle attacked a pit bull and he allegedly threatened two boys with a knife, police said.
Luis Velez, 42, of Benton Street in Springfield, was identified as the poodle owner.
The boys, 14 and 15, were walking their pit bull along Benton Street around 8:20 p.m. Monday when Velez’s poodle attacked, police said. The boys tried to get the poodle away from their pit bull but couldn’t.

Funny, I can take a selfie with my pit without a single chance he would bite me.
Hell, I can take a steak bone out of his mouth and the only thing that gets hurt is his feelings.
He has a much softer mouth than my min pins, Corgie and coon hound yet there are douche bags that can only talk $hit about them never having been near one.
