Murray County Deputy Greg Morrison put his arm around the FULL TITLE: Officer has face mauled by police K9 when he tried to take selfie with it
AA Georgia deputy sheriff was rushed to the hospital Monday after a police bit his face, ripping open his chin and lip. Murray County Deputy Greg Morrison put his arm around the Malinois after a job well done in an attempt to take a selfie with his cell phone. But the professional pup was in no mood for camaraderie and proved it with a vicious snap at Morrison's chin. 'Its an act of aggression to them whenever you do that,' Major Greg Fowler told the Dalton Daily Citizen, referring to Morrison's ill advised decision to wrap an arm around the dog.

I’ve been watching some of the Dog Whisperer’s videos. Some things seems questionable to me.
For one thing, sometimes it looks like the audio has been re-edited to suit the behaviors of the animals. You know - “now she’s going to do this..” then it happens. But did he say it before or after the event?
What do you think of him?
A flash capacitor loading up just might produce the sort of whine that would disturb a dog.
He has no education. He was a dogwalker.
He is also a bully and uses physical aggression with dogs, which does not work to change behavior. It just makes them afraid of you or defensive.
“I blew in her ear...”
Damn, LeoWindhorse. TMI... somethings should just be kept private, you know?!!! :}
Thanks. Yeah, he had me scratching my head a number of times - seemed like an odd approach that gave short term, but possibly not long term results.
I don’t have any specific problems with my dogs - I’m just interested as I live in Thailand and am forever taking in strays or at least trying to help them out when practical so the more knowledge I have, the better.
I’ll PM you if anything comes up, though.
I remember what a veterinarian told me one time: "All dogs which are alive and have teeth WILL bite under the right circumstances." Obviously, this guy didn't understand that.
Are you saying that a dog should not be expected to tolerate a dominance gesture from his human master?
“... will bite under the right circumstances”.
I’ve known some K9 officers through the years. The handler in this case is 100% to blame. First, K9 dogs aren’t “normal” dogs. They are trained at a young age to bite. The schooling of the dogs is intense from my understanding.. dogs that don’t show aggression when needed are washed out of the program. Secondly, the dogs get into a state of mind. When the cop “hugged” the dog to show a good job.. WRONG. I’ve been told to get them out of that type of state of mind.. the handler will remove them from all other people and reward them with a ball. The ball is used to bring the dog’s agitated state back to “normal”. The handler disregarded all of his training for a selfie.. the dog’s reaction probably isn’t surprising at all to professional, experienced K9 handlers. IMHO.
LOL!
You are a hero. I donated to Soi last year monthly.
If you want to have a dog that cooperates with you, you have to use dog language correctly.
That was a great vet. Most are not that saavy.
Somebody needs to sic the ACLU on these cops praying on the taxpayer's dime < /sarc>
Hey, that is great! Do you live here? Phuket has the best dog assistance and control program in Thailand - by far. I think Soi Dog Foundation is primarily responsible for that.
I am in Washington state. But I have two dogs from Taiwan and that led me to discover Soi Dog Foundation.
Far better to stick with nice, large, impressive, friendly dogs, like Great Danes.
Poodle Attacks Pit Bull
A local man was charged after his poodle attacked a pit bull and he allegedly threatened two boys with a knife, police said.
Luis Velez, 42, of Benton Street in Springfield, was identified as the poodle owner.
The boys, 14 and 15, were walking their pit bull along Benton Street around 8:20 p.m. Monday when Velez’s poodle attacked, police said. The boys tried to get the poodle away from their pit bull but couldn’t.
