I was thinking the same thing.
Most communications/spy planes do not have aerobatic capabilities.
Can you image trying to do a loop in an E2 Hawkeye?

Tu-214SR - Russia's modern version of Looking Glass. Been flying about two years now. They have at least two flying.

Although we tend to think of a plane flying loops in a vertical manner, loops can also be horizontal, flat, like a loop in a river. A circular path.

Doomsday plane?
Yeah sure. The TU-214 made by Tupolev looks wewy scarvey!

Dr. Strangelove: Of course, the whole point of a Doomsday Machine is lost, if you *keep* it a *secret*! Why didn't you tell the world, EH?

Russia’s version of the Looking Glass Airborne Command Post.
Two flying now, with another 4 on order. China is supposedly getting some, as well, with their own electronic suite.
Like I’ve said many times, the perception in the west is that this is still Soviet Russia’s military.
It isn’t, and Putin has spent a BUNCH of oil money on upgrades that are just now coming on line, like this, drones, and next-gen fighters.

Rumor mill says that one of these is supposed to make an appearance at Farnsboro.
I’m still working on getting there, but if I do, it’s just been added to my list of must-have pics.
