ORILLIA, Ont. -- Local students were ordered to stay in their classrooms Thursday while emergency crews dealt with a 600-pound threat -- a female moose, estimated to be about two years old, which had made her way onto a property near Monsignor Lee Catholic School and Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary Schools.
"How Canadian is that?" Tyler Evans said upon learning a moose was behind the safety precaution.
"In the States they're getting locked down because of bomb threats, and we're getting locked down because of a moose," the Patrick Fogarty student said.
The schools were put in hold-and-secure mode, meaning they were told to stay put but not ordered to lock down the school.
Police closed roads in the area and asked the Ministry of Natural Resources for assistance, ministry spokeswoman Jolanta Kowalski said.
MNR staff tranquilized the moose and relocated it to the Swift Rapids area about 30 km north of the city, Petryshyn said, noting the moose was up and running shortly after it was released.
"This is a first for me," said Patrick Fogarty principal Andy Sendzik.
He said his school was in hold-and-secure mode for about an hour.
Heh...uh, Orillia—northern Ontario, too...or the middle, or something. Never mind. ;-)
It’s definitely meese. it only makes sense. A goose is a goose, but many are geese.
Thousands of polar bears lol, and cameras to record the fun!
I’m ashamed to admit that watching terrified liberals run amok trying to evade bears and in general having not a clue and not a gun would be entertaining to say the least lol.
I had a cow walk out of the brush within ten feet of me while hunting (bulls). I sat VERY still and she never saw me. She knew something was up because she kept looking my way. She was eating in a pond and finally decided she had some place to be, and left.
I wasn't afraid, but I did not take my eyes off her, either.
Technically the plural is moose: like deer and sheep the singular is also the plural. That said, meese works for me.
Was it just moose, or was it moose and squirrel?
Mooz
Heh. Agreed. On the CO Rockies, we have some predators (gobs of cougars and coyotes around my place, a few black bear) but not as many kinds as AB (no wolf packs here). Not many moose. There are a few moose within a few miles now, around a nearby canyon.
BTW, were moose made from spare parts or somethin’? They just look wrong, somehow, to my Yankee eyes—worse than elk!
Moose are ugly, I think God just got bored making stuff and closed his eyes lol.
We have a lot of big monsters up here, and they’re vicious. It’s best to take boomsticks when you leave the house.
We have grizz, and black bears, wolves, well you name it.
I’d like to conduct a social experiment. I’d like to airdrop a few hundred leftists into the wilderness around here and monitor their activities. It’s all in the name of science of course. heh.
It this what happens at *ice-out*?
We had stay inside when every there was a bear a siting. And the time we found a some ammo on the playground the teacher took it away.
Yeah, I like meese, too. LOL
