SIOUX CITY, Iowa People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has asked Iowa transportation officials for permission to build a temporary memorial tombstone that they say will honor hundreds of turkeys killed in a recent truck crash.
Ankeny resident and PETA member Alex Moore says in a letter dated Tuesday that he wants to erect the 10-foot structure in remembrance of more than 500 turkeys killed in a crash April 12 in Sioux City. The truck transporting the animals overturned.

The truck was almost certainly bound for the poultry slaughter facility. So all the crash did was speed the Reaper. Why should turkeys killed in an accident be “honored” any more than the millions of their cousins who go to the slaughterhouse unremarked every day?
I suspect the rednecks in Sioux City will have a field day if this “monument” is built.

In Japanese, the word for turkey is 七面鳥 shichimenchou, literally "seven-face bird," because of the way the bird's face and neck change color. It's also a reference to 七面花, "seven-face flower," which is a kind of country-Japanese dialect word for hydrangea.

They need to post some banners up saying, “We will miss you all... Butterballs!”

Cool. PUt a TON of birdseed and worms at the bottom and the thing will end up covered in bird poop in 24 hours.
I call that “winning”!

In American English, the word for turkey is Dinner.

People in Sioux City can’t spell that well. But I’m sure they can muster some cruder sentiments.

You have to think like a PETA member.
Thats so the turkey’s families can have a place to come and mourn.

How about a tombstone for the cattle cruelly shot and killed by the BLM in Nevada or the desert tortoises similarly “euthanized”.
