Sen. Rand Paul distanced himself Thursday from Cliven Bundys recent remarks on race, roughly a week after the likely 2016 presidential contender knocked the way the federal government has handled the land dispute with the defiant rancher.
Cliven Bundys remarks on race are offensive and I wholeheartedly disagree with him, Mr. Paul, Kentucky Republican, said via Twitter.

Yep. That is my point. Dems play these little distraction games to get us on defense. We need to stay on point. Bundy is a victim and not a spokesman.
I saw the video. Mr. Bundy has more genuine concern for the plight of the modern Black family than any phony Liberal. he sees despair where it is. Liberals see their “good intentions” but not the results.
It doesn’t matter if Bundy is the biggest racist in the world. That isn’t germane to the argument about property rights vs. government edicts.
I am with Bundy on this statement is the statement NOT true!!! It is true
the black communities are slaves to the government, horrible schools,
horrible neighborhoods, NO JOBS, family units are NIL!!!! He IS correct!!!!
I’ve kind of been a Rand Paul cheerleader but he needs to take some time out and decide who he is and what he really beleives because right now he’s jumping all over the place and it does not look good.
He would be better off just to stay quiet for awhile until he and his campaign people can put together a cogent structured agenda for him to push.
The guy wants to restore our freedom from being groped by the TSA and spied on by the NSA. That’s all good and now Rand Paul needs to figure out the rest of his story.
Mr. Bundy is not a politician so why is he getting asked questions about issues not related to the illegal confiscation of his property???
How many black women slaves were raped? How many slave families were sold and separated? Abortions? What does any of those issues have to do w/ the BLM and Bundy?
The point is that if you want to make a political stand and have public opinion on your side...you don’t talk about the “negro” and you don’t imply blacks were better off as slaves.
Bundy muddied the water, IMO, because he had an audience and he started yammering. AND there is video and audio...which the MSM loves to have and play over and over and over.
The Left would be distant memory but for race politics..
That's it right there. The left and can postulate their rabid craziness all the day long on any medium with impunity. Let the average Joe citizen make un-politically correct suggestions and all hell comes down upon him.
For all the so-called conservatives and Glenn Beck types out there who jump on the anti-Bundy bandwagon are nothing more than the left's useful idiots.
Randy the Candy A**. At least Gov Perry swatted away the trick question (being asked about Bundy’s comments) and was not distracted. Take note, Pubbies.
Ding, ding, ding - we have a thread winnah!
the rancher discussed the larger issue of people becoming overdependent on government assistance.
He starts the entire piece saying we DON'T want to go back. Then he wonders what with abortions, no jobs, and jail if that is better off than the slavery years. It's saying that We don't wanna go back, but with all the trouble of welfare slavery, you gotta wonder if blacks are better off now.
He then goes on to talk about the Mexicans. He says they work hard, pay taxes, have great families, and we can learn from them, and we should welcome them.
What would a fair-minded person think his point is?
It sure isn't racist. He started by saying "We DON'T want to go back." Then he worries about blacks and Mexicans getting a raw deal today.
Listen to it. His attitude is concerned, thoughtful. He's not loud, angry, nothing like that at all. It sounds like his intent was trying to be helpful. And his talk about Mexicans really is he's trying to reach out and get people to see how good the Mexicans are.
It just goes to prove that only a race-hustler knows the right way to express ideas about race without getting in trouble.
MovieShopped.
For an hour? Now that’s dedication....
Hard to say. I don't think they kept statistics on that.
No, the point seems to be if you want to stand up for your rights you have to give up your right to free speech.
Why do you have to put negro in quotes?
No, not for most of the public. Spoon fed the 'correct' news by State controlled media, they only use about 1% of their brain, so I don't think they would even notice a difference, nor care.
I put negro in quotes because that’s the word Bundy used. I’ve had no reason to use that word in reference to anyone.
We will have to disagree about this topic. But I didn’t say Bundy lost his right to say anything he wants. But I do believe if you put yourself in front of the public and divert the topic to race, I think you’ve got to expect repercussions.
And I’ve yet to read folks standing up for Bundy’s comments in favor of illegal Mexicans. Bundy strongly argued that Mexicans should be welcomed w/ open arms as they have stronger family structures than white people.
Awesome. Let’s just open up the borders to all nationalities who are known to have ‘strong’ family value. / sarc
Rand Paul: Extending jobless benefits a 'disservice' to workers"When you allow people to be on unemployment insurance for 99 weeks, you're causing them to become part of this perpetual unemployed group in our economy. And it really - while it seems good, it actually does a disservice to the people you're trying to help," Paul said.
Bundy's personal views on race or pancakes or anything else have NOTHING to do with this issue.Which is why he should have kept those views to himself. Doesn't he have any friends to counsel him on how to live with the world's evil spotlight shining down on you? What did he have to gain by sharing this opinion of his? How did it help his cause. I know he's not a professional activist, but seriously... where are his friends? No one was there to give him words of caution? I feel very bad for him. A lot of people let him down.
