Cliven Bundy Just Ruined His Cause
National Journal ^ | 04/24/2014 | Brian Resnick

After Bundy's overtly racist remarks, let's see how far politicians run away from him.

The New York Times has overheard Cliven Bundy—the Nevada rancher who, instead of paying decades of overdue grazing fees, met the Bureau of Land management with guns and a small militia—saying this:

"I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro," he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, "and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids — and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch — they didn't have nothing to do. They didn't have nothing for their kids to do. They didn't have nothing for their young girls to do.

"And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do?" he asked. "They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I've often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn't get no more freedom. They got less freedom."

Expect every politician to back away from the issue.

"His remarks on race are offensive and I wholeheartedly disagree with him," Sen. Rand Paul said in a statement Thursday morning.

Except it is now only about Bundy. The issue that started it no longer matters.

Being on welfare is better than being a slave, because it’s perfectly legal to get off welfare, and they’ll hunt you down if you runaway. Plus, if you runaway from slavery, you probably have to leave your wife and children behind. I don’t judge anyone who didn’t runaway harshly. I don’t know what I myself would do. In contrast, if you get a job, you can take your wife and children with you. I do judge those who stay on welfare harshly. I don’t judge anybody harshly who falls into welfare dependency. If someone falls into dependency, whether because of circumstances beyond their control or because of their own fault, they should develop a plan to become independent. I think those who get off welfare dependency are among the real heroes among us. So are all those struggling at the margin between poverty and the middle class nowadays, such as by working two part-time jobs. May God bless them. We need a vibrant economy and welfare policies so everybody among us who can will be able to lead productive and happy live.

“Somebody should tell Bundy to shut his mouth and let intelligent people handle this.”

He’s a lot smarter than you are!!!

What he said bears repeating.

Even if they did, and I think you are correct, going down this road makes us look as silly as “unskewing” did in 2012.

I have looked all over the place and listened to several of Cliven Bundy’s speeches and cannot find the comments that he allegedly made about the “Negroes” though I have found numerous postings by the Washington Post and other MSM outlets who are reporting it. It’s starting to look like a fabrication by the MSM. Anyone else found it? If he didn’t say it and they are lying lets make them prove it and put the ball back in their court.

Is there a recording, video or audio, of Mr. Bundy’s alleged comments?

If not, we’re supposed to take the word of one candy-ass NY Slimes reporter? I wonder how much Harry Reid paid the “reporter” to concoct this story?

Without independent verification, I’m a skeptic. After all, Reid said, “something will happen.”

And will all that’s happening on and near his ranch, Cliven Bundy has nothing better to do than to drive around crappy North Las Vegas with an Eastern “reporter” from one of the most left-wing “newspapers” in America?

Doesn’t pass the smell test.

Let me be clear. Assuming the quote is correct, the word “Negro” isn’t racist in of itself. But the phrase “black people are in jail and abort their babies ‘because they never learned to pick cotton’”, that IS racist.

Sorry, it just is.

When this story first broke I seem to remember an article warning conservatives to keep a distance. This is why.

Oh come on...You know damn well the press was going to "find something" on him, no matter what, even if they had to make it up.

This is nothing but a Lefty dog whistle, and agit-prop hit-piece by a known Lefty King's Man (well, a King's Man when a Democrat is King).

Adam Nagourney fought on the side of the Clinton media forces in the impeachment wars back in 1998-1999.

He's openly gay, so there's no doubt he relished penning this hit-piece about the hated Christian rabble out West supporting Bundy.

Nagourney is worse than a simple "deadbeat journalist" - he's a vicious mercenary who uses his talents to support a bullying, malevolent government/media complex.

“The Left never throws their people overboard. WE DO IT ALL THE TIME!”

Actually, this time its different. The only guy that has to go over the side is Rand Paul, which is fine with me. Gutless quisling.

I tell you, the progressives were ready with the ‘flip/flopper’ label for that guy two seconds after we might have been stupid enough to win the nomination.

Step away from the keyboard nd breathe. No one is “allowing” it, its just the way the media will report it, and that’s my point. I refuse to explain myself to someone who’s go to response includes “coward.”

“black people are in jail and abort their babies ‘because they never learned to pick cotton’”, that IS racist.

What exactly is racist about it? And you can't isolate the sentence without placing it in context of his alleged remarks. There is no doubt that the number of blacks in jail far exceeds their percentage of the total population. Nor can you dispute that blacks use abortion to a much higher degree than other groups in our society.

I read the "learn to pick cotton" remark as the failure of blacks to obtain the requisite skills and education to get a job and earn a decent living. Instead, they are dependent upon big government, which is just another form of slavery.
