Republicans including possible 2016 candidate Rand Paul -- are scrambling to distance themselves from defiant Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy after he made startling comments about slavery and African-Americans in a New York Times article published Wednesday night.
From the Times Adam Nagourney:
I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro, he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch they didnt have nothing to do. They didnt have nothing for their kids to do. They didnt have nothing for their young girls to do.
And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do? he asked. They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And Ive often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didnt get no more freedom. They got less freedom.
Bundy had previously drawn support from some GOP lawmakers for his clash with the Bureau of Land Management.
[snip]
In statements after Bundys remarks, both Paul and Heller condemned his comments.
"His remarks on race are offensive and I wholeheartedly disagree with him, said Paul.
And a spokesman for Heller told the Times that the senator completely disagrees with Mr. Bundys appalling and racist statements, and condemns them in the most strenuous way.

Gay means happy...right? I read a letter my grandmother wrote many years ago and she said my aunts were “living quite the gay life in Arizona” I laughed at that one, my mother had no idea what was funny about that. My father in law insisted changing the meaning of words was a trick, just a trick to make people look bad, make old people look ignorant.

America, and some FR forums for that matter, are being changed for the worse, as regards the right to free speech. Very interesting running across this.
First you throw complaints out about the tea party movement, now you are complaining about Free Republic "forums?"
Duly noted.

I think most people are tired of hearing nothing but whites are racists when in truth blacks are just as if not more racist. That’s all they have when their arguments fall way short.screw them and their ilk.

Syncro, you and I were conversing (posting) about the TPX (Tea Party Express), AN ORGANIZATION TO WHICH I HAVE GIVEN MONEY and still support.
And yes, as I have visited other FR forums, I have noticed more and more closed threads, notably on the Religion Forum.
Fair enough; it is also duly noted you may have a reading-comprehension disability. I too am a FReeper and have been a member of the T.E.A. movement all along! Cut the bull and cool the flames!

It seems there is nothing new under the sun...
We again warn our people in America of the constantly increasing threat against our inspired Constitution and our free institutions set up under it.
The same political tenets and philosophies that have brought war and terror in other parts of the world are at work amongst us in America.
The proponents thereof are seeking to undermine our own form of government and to set up instead one of the forms of dictatorships now flourishing in other lands.
These revolutionists are using a technique that is as old as the human racea fervid but false solicitude for the unfortunate over whom they thus gain mastery and then enslave them.
