A week after California State Senator Mark Leno (D-CA) proposed a bill requiring a kill switch for smartphones sold in the state, federal lawmakers have put forward a similar bill.
On Thursday, US Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and Mazie Hirono (D-HI) introduced national legislation to require a way to disable smartphones remotely. The goal is to deter theft and protect consumers, but this defense against thieves might come with greater vulnerability to hackers, according to a mobile industry trade group.

If the consumers want this some enterprising cell manufacturer will offer it and outsell the ones that don’t have it. Or not, but no need for gov’t involvement.
It's in there. Near the bottom...
My ham radio already has a remote kill switch installed. Good to go !!! NOT.

The Commerce Clause, right? Or perhaps the “Good and Welfare Clause”??
As would the yankee slaveholders and yankee bankers who made millions off of slavery. Don't be an ignorant snob.

May be to time to brush up on Mr. Morse’s code.
Be nice to get that ‘old bug’ up and running before I go SK.
Be nice to see the old ‘Dinosaur’ tactics ‘save the world’ as we know it....
“What do you do when they shove your face into the dirt, take the SD card and break the camera?”
Ahh, you said that to Johnny - that says you don’t know Johnny.

Yeesh. Scratch a liberal and find a fascist.
Dude... Just let the industry work this out. There’s already good apps for tracking stolen phones. These same apps let me remotely lock or wipe my phone. Yes, it’s a good idea for anybody with a smart phone to have this capability. But not everything that’s a good idea needs to be required by law. Just as not everything that’s a bad idea must be banned by law.
Just butt out. Smarter people than you are already way ahead of you on this. Take off the jackboots and go on vacation or something. Yeesh.

I only have a dumb phone. I uses it to make and receive phone calls.
I don’t need to surf the web and all of that other good stuff from my cell phone.
My computer handles everything for me—
