Now through early Saturday morning it is nothing but John Wayne movies on Turner Classic Movies.
Link to TCM where you can peruse their schedule to maximize your viewing pleasure.
My dad used to wake us up (no matter the hour) so we could watch She Wore a Yellow Ribbon....must have seen it at least twice a year when I was growing up. Still like it
A member of the loyal opposition emphasis on loyal.....One of the best lines ever
... drum roll.. I knew him well enough to have gotten drunk with him, on a lost weekend in Mexico.. Ha!
Ok, it was only once, and we were with 15 people.. Still, a fabulous memory, what I can remember.. :)
Again referencing the `rats: “Life is hard. It’s even harder when you’re stupid.”
true words are timeless
“The Quiet Man”, “Rio Bravo”, “the Shootist”
In just about any color picture of Wayne with him dressed Western style, he will have on his “Red River D” belt buckle.
Wayne also used the Red River “D” as his personal brand on his ranch. It consisted of two wavy lines representing the river with a capital D over them.
bttt
Interesting that currently showing (10pm eastern time) is Frontier Horizon...sure has all the feel of Harry Reid and the BLM versus the Bundy family and the patriots who support them
Here is the descriptor :” The Three Mesquiteers attempt to warn ranchers that a group of greedy speculators are attempting to swindle them by exchanging their property for worthless parcels of land”
“Yellow Ribbon” was made in color. The other two cavalry movies “Fort Apache” and “Rio Grande” were made in black and white. Why just the one was made in color, I do not know.
The other two were colorized but this technique was never popular so you will always see them in black and white.
“Sleeping bag?!”
I have a pic. of the Duke in Marine garb with that quote on my classroom door. Been there for years. Glad I’m in the deep south.
I love every john Wayne movie....but....my favorites are “The Searchers” and “The Quiet Man”!!! “The Searchers” for the one & only, true method of overcoming racial bias...one man at a time....and the “The Quiet Man” for it’s delightful, truthful depiction of Irish culture!!! The “irish” cast in the film comes right from Dublin stage and Irish film careers!!! Magnificent!!!
Love John Wayne.
The Godfathers and Donovan’s Reef are our Christmas favorites.
We don’t have cable or satellite
I wonder if they’ll show The High and The Mighty.
“God Bless All in this House”
“WIPE YOUR FEET!!”
Followed by She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and Rio Grande.
The Wings of Eagles
