CENTRAL PARK A group of teens, who sources said were between 12 and 14, was being questioned for a Central Park mugging spree in which they are suspected of taking an iPad and iPhone from two women and slugging a man who refused to hand over his cash Monday morning, police said.
The teens first tried to mug the 31-year-old man, whose name was not released, near East Drive and 96th Street about 5:15 a.m., but punched him in the face when he refused to cooperate, an NYPD spokesman said.
The man managed to escape to Fifth Avenue and 96th Street, where police found him after receiving a 911 call, according to the NYPD. He refused medical attention at the scene, but as he was telling officers what happened, the crew mugged two more women, 46 and 48, in the park nearby, police said.
The teens made off with an iPad and iPhone, the NYPD said.
