More than 160 inmates in five Colorado prisons are sick with a mysterious virus. The virus is affecting prisons in Denver, Pueblo, Buena Vista, and Canon City. Because of the illness all inmate visits at the Denver Womens, La Vista, and Fremont correctional facilities have been canceled. The Department of Corrections says the inmates who are sick have been experiencing flu-like symptoms.

Pot laced snacks?
Yep, I’m in the middle of it and have been to the Doctors twice this week. Symptoms run the gammet of flu like aches, low grade fever, then moves on like a head cold or sinus infection, then down to the chest. One whopper of a virus, they had to change my meds and give me two types of cough medicine.
I had a house full yesterday and was cooking all day, I also refused to hold my new granddaughter, I didn’t want to make her sick. Now I’m totally exhausted...
Please add me to this ping list. Thanks.
Yes, the hand washing is very important. I learned that years ago from my dear late mother. As she did, I wash my hands first thing upon returning home whenever I have been out in public, and I do not eat anything without washing my hands first.
In January, I had my first illness in years and years. Some sort of short-lived stomach bug, which I probably caught from my youngest grandson, whom I was babysitting at the time.
Please add me to the list as well.
If there is a good thing about this, it is that the timing is such that w/warmer wx now, more will be outside and NOT confined indoors (I know, not relative to the prison population in op but, in that scenario, I would have to go w/something common and foodborne.
Beat me to it! Maybe cookies.
NOTE TO SELF: When in Colorado selling AR and AK 30 round magazines out of the trunk, DO NOT eat local prepared food. Bring your own in cans!
Done. It’s been kinda busy the past few days.
I could believe that. Perfect subject group.
Welcome aboard.
I’m a hermit and rarely go anywhere; but the flu I got was airborne, and I got it two days after I did venture out to an official event I had to attend. And everyone around here had it, so it was likely inevitable. I agree, it is vital to wash hands after touching anything anyone has touched, if I do go out, I have home made hand sanitizer and use if frequently.
With some bad flus such as swine flu, as with the 1918 flu, the virus can directly cause pneumonia, without the need of secondary bacterial infection.
Thanks, FRiend.
Before I touch it, I lick it clean.
So there is a viral pneumonia circulating and has reached epidemic proportions in several prisons and they don’t know what they are dealing with? The veterinarians at Colorado State would have a handle on this quickly if it had been livestock. What is the problem?
Some animals are more equal than others?
The problem is that life in prison sucks. Colorado provides pretty good health care for prisoners, but their capacity is very limited.
