Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced this week that he plans to spend $50 million of his vast wealth to create a “gun safety” group that he hopes will “outmuscle” the NRA, according to The New York Times.
But the new group, “Everytown for Gun Safety,” was a little too slow on the draw when it came to getting control of the group name on Facebook, with pro-gun activists acquiring the name first, BuzzFeed reported.
A Facebook page has been set up under the same name as Bloomberg’s new endeavor, and states: “This is a Pro-Gun page, We encourage Gun Safety and Responsibility.” The page currently has over 28,000 “likes.”
In a statement to BuzzFeed, the page administrator wrote:
“I took the Bloomberg name because I wanted this page to remain open to debate, unlike his group at Moms Demand Action that block anyone with alternative views. Gun owners are getting a bad rep nation wide from their anti gun propaganda. As to who I am, I am your average citizen that believes the second amendment ‘shall not be infringed.’”
The person chose not to provide their name, but did openly acknowledge their action on the page, as seen here:
A representative at Bloomberg’s group, an entity the Times said seeks to curb gun violence, offered to duel for the page name when made aware of the page, according to BuzzFeed.
“Maybe they’d like to duel for it,” said Mark Glaze, the executive director of Everytown for Gun Safety. “I hear every person on our staff of 85 is a better shot than Wayne LaPierre. Or maybe a bidding war!”
And Bloomberg can’t figure out why his previous efforts at gun control, to include the ill-fated Mayors Against Illegal Guns, has met with such limited success?
On a serious note, Glaze said they are in the process of acquiring trademark protection.
“Once that happens, we expect Facebook to shoo these cybersquattters politely off this name/page,” he said.
Not quite as exciting as a duel, huh?
Who knows what really is/has transpired? But, knowing suckerburgs leanings, I gotta think the pro-gun guy got smacked around.
There’s a very hot place deeeep down that will freeze hard as a rock before this guy even thinks about joining facebook.

I wrote in another thread yesterday how incredibly elitist NYC is. How the very rich, the politicians, the celebrities all are given licenses to carry. For example people like Robert De Niro, Howard Stern, Donald Trump are all allowed to carry guns, but some guy running a 24 hour convenience store in the Bronx can only use a butter knife to defend himself when he gets robbed which means he gets killed. All these rich people can afford 24 an hour armed guards yet they get a license to carry? So in other words Howard Stern who is chauffeured to his radio station then back to his multi-million dollar doorman guarded high rise condo on the upper West side has a more dangerous job than a guy who runs a store or gas station in a bad neighborhood. What an elitist crock of BS.

With gun control laws, only the rich, celebrities and the politically connected can have the privilege of defending themselves. Every one else is effectively SOL and if they have to die, its for the greater good.

It’s disgusting isn’t it, I can’t even count the amount of times I read about gas station workers, store clerks, taxi drivers being killed in robberies in New York city because the only thing they had to defend themselves with is NOTHING. Yet this piece of dog filth Bloomberg is issuing gun permits to people like Harvey Keitel or Robert De Niro because they are actors? ACTORS? What? Even Donald Trumps SONS get the right to carry guns? For what, in case they want to take target practice in one of their multi-million dollar mansions?? The elitism is incredible in that city! Freakin’ liberals never fail to amaze me with their arrogance.
Our new lords are allowed to carry arms, serfs are not. Just kneel before them and be quiet.

You’re far safer in Kabul, Afghanistan any time at midnight than you are behind the counter of a convenience store in the South Bronx, that’s for sure.
