The Spotlight

Read: Romans 5:1-11
Ill never forget the Easter Sunday in 1993 when Bernhard Langer won the Masters golf tournament. As he stepped off the 18th green to receive the green jacketone of golfs most coveted prizesa reporter said, This must be the greatest day of your life! Without missing a beat, Langer replied: Its wonderful to win the greatest tournament in the world, but it means more to win on Easter Sundayto celebrate the resurrection of my Lord and Savior.
Langer had an opportunity to boast about himself, but instead he turned the spotlight on Jesus Christ. Its exactly what Paul was talking about when he said, We also rejoice [boast] in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation (Rom. 5:11).
Its easy to look for ways to draw attention to our own accomplishments, making mental lists of things that are cool about ourselves. Even Paul admitted that he had a lot to brag aboutbut he considered all of it rubbish for the sake of knowing Christ (Phil. 3:8). We would do well to follow his example.
So, if you really want something to boast about, boast about Jesus and what Hes done for you. Look for opportunities to turn the spotlight on Him.
Naught have I gotten but what I received,
Grace hath bestowed it since I have believed;
Boasting excluded, pride I abase
Im only a sinner saved by grace! Gray
You cant boast in Jesus while youre preoccupied with yourself.

My theme this week is for'special dedicated to all the Joe Walsh fans in the house. Now that of course includes all the Eagles, Barnstorm & James Gang fans as well and some other goodies including Joe jamming with Willie Nelson, Fleetwood Mac, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Etta James, Albert Collins, Jay Ferguson, Dave Mason, George Harrison, Albert Lee, Jonny Lang, Steve Winwood and Toby Keith to name a few. In a bit of a one-off I'm posting no studio Joe tonight (unless of course those requests start rolling in), but this is an entire jukebox of live performances spanning Joe's almost 50 year recording career.
Anyone who's ever attended a Joe Walsh show knows anything can happen and I've culled these concert appearances from various promotional and bootleg sources as well as his rare live albums. Joe is a prolific songwriter having penned some of the greatest classic rock songs of the 70s and 80s as well as some stunningly beautiful ballads, like this first one from the mid-80s which Joe wrote for the Eagles before they broke up (the first time). It's a shout out to my lifetime BFF Mike Troyer who was my go-to guitar slinger in about a thousand bands. "Things to remember, places to go ..."
