MEXICO CITY (AP) A seemingly strong earthquake is shaking Mexico's capital.
There is no immediate word of damage or casualties and seismologists have not yet issued a calculation of its power or epicenter.
Mexico City is vulnerable even to distant earthquakes because much of it sits atop the muddy sediments of drained lake beds that quiver as quake waves hit.

USGS says 7.5. That’s gonna be bad.
That’s cuz the 1st wookie is still burping.
It’s actually centered on the coast, closer to Acapulco than to Mexico City.
DF is built almost entirely on fill.
30 miles deep. Probably not a serious problem but large quakes have been moving north in the last year.
The cardboard and tar paper covered shacks will probably hold up better than the buildings.
It is bad. Anything above a 6 has to be.
Gringo Frackers?
7.5?
Prayers for all those in the wake.
If that earthquake was 10 to 20 km (6.2 to 12.4 miles) beneath the ground, the damage could be enormous. But being 30 miles down, the damage may be not so significant.

LMAO
Sure seems that way lately....
You would think that after the 86 quake, they would have beefed up their buildig codes.
We had an earthquake while in Mexico. Husband like so lied...told me it was construction at the base of the mountain.
Actually I feel a bit bad for that quip if this thing is a 7.5, this is no joking matter.
