Sriracha Hot Sauce may move its factory out of California because of a months-long battle with the city of Irwindale over the smell from the factory, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Sriracha sauce creator David Tran said on Wednesday that there have been multiple offers from other cities in California as well as other states to move his factory and leave Irwindale behind. He invited the various interested parties to tour the factory and see if the smell would be a problem.
One week ago, the Irwindale City Council voted unanimously Trans factory to be declared a public nuisance even though Tran had promised he would fix the problem by July 1. Tran is worried that even if he fixes the smell, and residents still file complaints, he will be embroiled in legal disputes for the foreseeable future. He told the Times: "[City officials] tell you one thing, but think another. I don't want to sit here and wait to die.
Irwindale City Attorney Fred Galante, along with Irwindale officials, feel that all they are asking for is an action plan, the Times notes, and they claim that Tran is being intransigent in not providing one to this date. Galante said of Trans threat to move: This seems very extreme. It's disappointing giving that [air quality officials] have explained that there are readily available solutions.

I believe Mr. Tran is Vietnamese...escaped ‘Nam is 1978 via a ship called the “Huy Fong” hence his company’s name. More here: http://www.huyfong.com/frames/index.htm and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huy_Fong_Foods
You speak the truth. Now, they are going to be unhappy, what with not having the tax revenues that this company has been providing.
I see some posts from people in other parts of California thinking that they should move to their communities or cities, I would like to remind you that Once the City of Irwindale “Officially” named them as a “Nuisance” with the blessing of the AQMD, that label will be Attached to them ANYWHERE IN THE STATE. They have literally NO CHOICE other than to relocate out of State. And next time I see Mr Tran I will encourage him to move, even though he has been a customer of mine for over 20 years. I have at least 50 or more customers that still live here in SoCal that Have CLOSED their Businesses in California and relocated them to other States.
Important knowledge. Thank you for sharing that and my sympathy to Mr. Tran.
Irwindale is basically pile of rubble, a racetrack, and the Miller brewery
