Jesus is an historical figure for me, and he’s also a bridge between God and man, in the Christian faith, and one that I think is powerful precisely because he serves as that means of us reaching something higher.

The sound is muffled. That plus their dignified British accents meant I could not understand one word. I have heard that he was very earnest and open about stating his belief in Jesus as his Lord and Savior. I hope that was even close to being true. Some everyday people who must be told what to think and what to believe will follow his example.
We here on Free Rep, are not your everyday people, as most of us think critically on the big topics. Off Topic; I’m glad Bono finally got a fair transplant he likes, so he won’t have to wear a tight headscarf 24/7 as he did in the 1990’s. His implants look much better than Elton John’s. Elton’s look like straw or maybe a baby hedgehog.
He paraphrased C.S.Lewis - Either Jesus is who he says he was - Son of God, or he was Charlie Manson crazy.
But I love the idea of the Sacrificial Lamb. I love the idea that God says: Look, you cretins, there are certain results to the way we are, to selfishness, and there’s a mortality as part of your very sinful nature, and, let’s face it, you’re not living a very good life, are you? There are consequences to actions. The point of the death of Christ is that Christ took on the sins of the world, so that what we put out did not come back to us, and that our sinful nature does not reap the obvious death. That’s the point. It should keep us humbled . It’s not our own good works that get us through the gates of heaven.
I am guessing the quotes you presented in post #2 were from the Obama interview with Cathleen Falsani in 2008.

Christ said: "By their fruits shall you know them." (Matthew 7:16).
He also said: "Blessed is he who is not ashamed of me." (Matthew 11:6)
Obama, on numerous occasions, has mocked Christ, mocked the Scriptures, and mocked those who believe.
I don't agree with Bono about everything he has ever said or done, but I found his affirmative, short, and to the point answers to the interviewer's questions courageous and refreshing. I firmly believe I will see Bono in the Kingdom.

1 John 4:15 says:
"Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God."
So, an arrogant, leftist who makes lousy music is a believer?

There is a third option. He was a politician, hoping to unite the twelve tribes of Israel and rule over them, and fulfill the prophecy of re-establishing an independent kingdom. It would explain why he traveled around talking to the various tribes, why he had 12 disciples, why he told the story of the good Samaritan, why he (at first) avoided non-Jews, why his lineage is recorded by his disciples (to prove he was eligible to fulfill the prophecy), why the Romans put “King of the Jews” on his cross, why he was betrayed by other Jews (because most would want the Messiah to be from their own tribe, it would be more advantageous...) etc.
Bono is at least an honest leftist, who generally practices what he preaches. If he were the norm for the left rather than the exception, political differences would be far more civil than they are now.
I don't know if he "dodged" it - he was asked very pointedly "Whom or what do you pray to?" and he answered very succinctly "Christ." Christ said He and the Father were one.
There was a thread here a couple of months ago about Roma Downey and her movie "Son of God."
She was asked who Jesus was, and she responded "The Son of God." I would have answered "He is Lord and Savior" - because He is.
Perhaps it is a Catholic/Evangelical difference - (I am a former Catholic who is now an Evangelical). But, I must say this: I found Bono's answer to be genuine and in the affirmative. He also said that the person of Jesus Christ was his way to God. That is scripturally correct, and is exactly what Christ declared.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
He never committed to who he thinks Jesus was.
But he’s damn committed to what powers the UN should have.

The Irish still don’t consider themselves to be British? After all this time. I know many Brits don’t even consider themselves to be “a part of Europe”, a fact most Americans find baffling. I believe they are largely surrounded by mountain ranges and bodies of water, thus the separation.

No, Jesus specifically rejected the calls to make Him King.
He warned His disciples he would be killed. How can a dead man be a politician? His kingdom was/is not of this world.
Jesus' primary objective (and the Father's as well) was dealing with sin. His death accomplished this.
John Dominic Crossan of the Jesus Seminar has also pushed that line. Of course the Jesus Seminar folks also don't believe Jesus performed any miracles or that he rose from the dead.
