SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Tuesday is the next -- and last -- big deadline within the NY Safe Act, and many gun owners plan to defy it by not registering their guns under the state's new definition of assault weapons. One columnist in Forbes writes as many as 1 million gun owners in New York will not register their guns as assault weapons.

What a coincidence. Two of my Kimber 1911's were stolen by a bear. Here's the police artist's sketch of the perp.

Good on 'ya, NY resisters.

Registration is first followed by confiscation after an incident such as happened in Newtown

Happened in NYC about 20 years ago. Registration in 1976 with the promise (politicians promises) that the lists would NEVER be used for confiscation.

Fast forward to 1991 corrupt left wing democrat mayor (sound familiar?) Dinkins rams confiscation of assault weapons through city council. 1993 NYPD confiscates all of those not certified as destroyed or turned in to police or sold out of state. NOTE NO police officers failed to carry out their unconstitutional orders.

I lost my rifles in a boating accident!

Be careful what you wish for: The penalty under NY law for failing to report a lost or stolen firearm is greater than the penalty for failure to register an "assault" weapon.

How many liberal or criminal gun owners also did not report and register?

Makes me wonder why anyone who cares about freedom would live there.

***Refusal to register creates felons in this law.***

FELONS are not required to register their guns.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haynes_v._United_States

” The original Haynes decision continues to block state prosecutions of criminals who fail to register guns as required by various state law gun registration schemes.”

Sickening. Our Founding Fathers would have these commies decorating every light pole in the city. How far we have fallen.

We know that registration is the tollbooth to the confiscation highway. People need to view Obamacare in the same way.

SSNs were the foundation. The feds want (demand) us to register with them all our personal details, preexisting conditions and so forth, ostensibly for our welfare. But of course the nature of the beast being what it is, the vile scheme is a trap. Registration will lead to confiscation... of our very lives.

From the numbers I have seen, only 3000 to 5000 have registered in NY. It’s hard to tell if that is a real number because the state is very tight lipped about this. I guess it is better to hide abject failure and declare victory than to admit Cuomo is a failed tyrant and the people have peacefully revolted.

I think the only people that registered are the handful of true believers in gun control, those that are high profile and publicly known to own the weapons and those that have acquaintances that would turn them in for the reward if they didn’t.

BTW - If the offending firearm has been disassembled does it make it legal since it does not have the offending feature. i.e., remove the pistol grp. It seems that there are companies replacing pistol grips with alternative. Would removing it do the same? I see a niche business opportunity is creating quick replaceable evil features. Grip on.... grip off.....

Makes me wonder why anyone who cares about freedom would live there.

Some of us have family commitments and/or business interests that are not easily moved to a free state.

Horses may be in short supply in New York, but I hope to see a response similar to the Nevada cowboys who stood up to the land grabbing feds when the gun grabbers start their raids.

Their best bet is to bulldoze their property and move to a free state, NY is lost to the NWO.

Lost? Take it back!

“Registration like this is not about safety for the citizens but about safety for the Government”

I’d substitute “control by” for the words “safety for.”

...for every government agent who says "No I won't do this to my fellow citizens." there is another just waiting who will say "Well I will."

Now is the time to get to know who is who, especially those who will be GIVING THE ORDERS. Contacts inside who will say "no" are an invaluable asset as they can help identify the ones who are a threat. If you cut off the head, the snake will die.

Note that NO police officers were shot while carrying out their unconstitutional orders. Not so this time, if I read the mood correctly.
