George Will: ‘I’m quite confident that we’re going to rebel against this abusive government’
The Blaze ^ | Apr. 11, 2014 | Benjamin Weingarten

In an interview with TheBlaze in connection with the release of his new book, “A Nice Little Place on the North Side: Wrigley Field at One Hundred,” we spoke with columnist and author George Will on all things baseball and his unified theory of beer, and then moved on to the arguably more important topic of the state of the union, touching on everything from the American founding, Will’s affinity for the Tea Party, to 2016, to immigration.

Among other explosive comments, Will told us that he is “quite confident that we’re going to rebel against this abusive government…sooner or later arithmetic is going to force realism on us.”

There’s the old cliché that history doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes. Is there a time in world history that you think is most analogous to today, and what country do you think in that era represented America? In other words, are we in World War I, and America is the British Empire, or is this World War II, or are we Rome? I’m curious as to your thoughts.

Will: Well ever since at about the time of the American founding, Edward Gibbon wrote “The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire,” people have been fascinated by the threat that democracies would decay; that history would be cyclical not linear; that decay and decline was inevitable; that the seeds of destruction were in particular regimes and particularly in democracies. And clearly the American founders worried about this. And Lincoln worried about it at Gettysburg, that the question was “Whether we shall long endure this form of government.”

I think that we’re in a period today comparable to the American founding period

So I think that we’re in a period today comparable to the American founding period in two senses:

Yes, so how does it help to attack them when one of their members says something that is true? It just proves to them that self-proclaimed conservatives are a knee-jerk, personality governed bunch and therefore it’s not worth their time to tailor their opinions to a small, warring group that could never elect them.

No, I don’t think its a “coordinated Tea Party attack.” It’s a few Keyboard Kommandos - whom I have seen here for years - and who probably don’t even vote because they’re too pure.

But they stomp out any other discussion or commentary and don’t even read the article once they’ve seen the name of the author. Then they attack the other posters.

That’s why Obama is in the White House right now.

I voted for Romney. Obama is in the WH right now because Romney ran a lousy campaign. Full stop.

OTOH, John Boehner can’t be bothered to defend us from IRS and various other assaults by the obama admin.

We went all in to remove the Kenyan. As a return favor the beltway GOP pushes amnesty and blank check funds the kenyan. Put those facts in your pipe and smoke it before you criticize conservatives. We aren’t the problem, FRiend.

Who is “we”, George?

"We" is Americans, of course. Why do you criticize Will for something you obviously agree with? Details, please.
