Let's be honest - this is a never-ending quest to legitimize men copulating with other men. All other considerations - including the LBTQ portion of the ever-growing acronym - are secondary.
There is, by definition and result, no life involved unless we're talking about the sad, lonely, existence of these misguided souls.
Culture? 90% of these turnouts involve imitating others - usually females or idealized male characters. By that standard a kid's Halloween party is culture.
Proud to be who you are? See above. Gay men will constantly talk about their old lives, being closeted, etc. They are not arriving at an identity, merely inventing a new one. As above, this is not truth - it's play-acting.

I watched the film at the site. Not really all that many people there. They try to blow this up to more than it really was. NBC trying to toot its own horn.
