LAS VEGAS (AP) — Images of a forced cattle roundup on a rural Nevada range sent ripples through the West on Friday, prompting elected officials in several states to weigh in, militia members to mobilize and federal land managers to reshape elements of the operation.
Bureau of Land Management officials dismantled designated protest areas Thursday and Nevada’s governor urged calm as the fight over rancher Cliven Bundy’s cattle widened into a debate about states’ rights and federal land-use policy.
The dispute that triggered the roundup dates to 1993, when the BLM cited concern for the federally protected tortoise. The agency later revoked Bundy’s grazing rights.
Bundy claims ancestral rights to graze his cattle on lands his Mormon family settled in the 19th century. He stopped paying grazing fees and disregarded several court orders to remove his animals.

My prediction is that some of the troops were actually Private Contractors simply wearing BLM patches, and based on how very badly the gummint screwed over Eric Prince that those hired PMC's were not Blackwater guys.
Some of the core goons were bearded, and I think these were men who had recently been working in the Middle East, since many locals there consider unbearded men as effeminate poofters.
My other prediction is that this gummint hostility resumed with great force after the mid-term elections in November.

It would take an INCREDIBLY brave Congressman or Senator to do that, because you know that the moment that such an investigation is launched:
1) That person’s NSA Eavesdropping files will mysteriously end up in the hands of a liberal media sycophant.
2) Their IRS files will end up on a desk at OFA/SEIU.
3)Late-Night Comics and The Daily Show will run skit after skit demonizing them.
4) The OFA/Opem Society Orgs will have their millions of Twitter/Facebook fakes posting endlessly about how evil this person is.
5)Liberal media sycophants will devote endless hours to tearing this person down.
6) Deranged Daily Kos libs, enraged by lib media, will threaten their families and children.
And I’m sure that is just the tip of the iceberg, and it is all stuff THAT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE...

That’s the problem here, the County bought up the ranchers land and then turned it over to BLM. Seems like it’s time to end feudalism, return the land to private ownership, or at least let the States control it. What purpose does the FEDERAL BLM serve anyway? Other than as we saw today, as is obviously part of the plan.
At least the feds were smart enough to realize this was a battle they could not win.

I’d originally thought Bundy to be a kook and a cheapskate, but the more I read about it the more logical his position is. I’d like to see Nevada’s governor ask to defuse the situation by having the Fedgov turn its lands over to the state for management. Let this be a local issue and if the locals are “concerned” about some turtle let them negotiate it out.

I agree with you about Las Vegas, unfortunately Reno, which used to be pretty conservative, has turned purple, if not blue. You are totally correct about rural Nevada - all true Patriots there.
