I forgot to say that my explanation for the author bio is that Obama wrote it, longing to be more “African.” As a teen he was longing to be part of and accepted by the American black community. And back then, all things African were REVERED by blacks. Check out old issues of Essence. Look at people in big American cities walking around in dashikis, changing their names from Steve to Ali. He had this wonderful in, legitimately being half African. Being born in Canada wasn’t as exotic. Can you imagine the doors that opened, with his smooth talk, and saying he was from Kenya? He was a successful community organizer with that precious fact. Do you think he brought up his white family ever?
Yet not long before that bio was composed, Obama was the subject of national media reports on his ascendency to the Presidency of the Harvard Law Review. Those reports stated he was born in Hawaii. If Obama longed to hold himself out as being from Africa, wouldn't that have been the time to stake out his claim to African birth? You really think he passed up that opportunity with national media and instead opted for puny little bio to be sent only to a handful of publishing houses?
In light of the articles in the Times, Post and Tribune the year prior, it's not credible to maintain Obama wrote a bio with contrary information the next year.
By 1995 he wasn’t into “Africa” any more?
