After the Revolutionary War, the authorities in Philadelphia turned their interest upon these settlers, threatening them with armed eviction if they didn't pay up.
The settlers wrote a letter to Ethan Allen in Vermont requesting his armed assistance with a contingency of Vermonters.
The Philadelphia authorities backed down in fear, knowing the reputation and effectiveness of Vermonters in battle.
That was many years before Vermont was taken over by trust fund hippies from New York who did what their ancestors couldn't accomplish.
