“Smart Car == Coffin on Wheels”
Hey now....
The wife has one, and she absolutely LOVES it.
38-40 miles per gallon in the city, for her long commute, much more “Eco” than a Prius (at far less cost, both in acquisition and ownership), simple to fix, and she loves that she can park anywhere in the crowded downtown, (and I do mean anywhere!).
Safer in a crash than almost any other compact car.
Oh...
Did I mention the Mercedes-Benz service and warranties?
Granted, it isn’t for everyone, especially as your only car, but as a second car it is perfect.
My 2008 Smart car was $19500., bottom line. They are the silliest looking little boxes. But I had a VW too. That was all I could afford when I was 23 and I had to use my poor dad's Vet funds. I drove that bug all over the state and Mexico. I let ALL the bumps and bruises STAY so when people saw my car...they gave me room because, by looking at all the dented fenders they believed that "she doesn't care...let her go."
The Smart Car's speedometer goes to 100 MPH. I had a 68 VW, but the speedometer went only to 90. I took it to Mexico when I was young and out in the middle of the desert, I decided to see what it could do.
I got to a LONG hill and when I got to the top I OPENED it up, petal to the metal. Lol. At the bottom of the hill, full throttle, I got it PAST 90 M.P.H. all the way up to the 10 miles an hour on the OTHER side of the dial. THAT, agmigo mio, was 100 MPH. I let old Nellie slow down. Those bugs could move.
The Smart Car and the VW are German cars. The Germans can build cars.
Mind you I have driven in the city for eons and know that even one of the big boy cars are no match for the behemoth street cars and buses. They would CREAM anything on the road except ANOTHER street car or bus.
Learning to drive in a big city prepared me well for driving in Mexico and Mexico City. I needed it.
I take my Smart Car to the Mercedes-Benz service too and roll in past all the snooty Beamers. :o)
I'm in a big city and the M-B dealer is HUGE. It's good business buying a car like that for the city...and it IS German.
They DO make good cars. Always have and probably always will.
When I was in Mexico City with my 68 VW (1970-72) there was a HUGE VW dealer there run by ALL Germans. Lol. It was WEIRD hearing all those Krauts speaking Spanish.
Twilight zone time.
I always looked forward to them, but didn’t hear them much. Then I bought Rush 24/7 and can listen to the shows any time I want...but the mp3 didn’t include the parodies. That was a real bummer. Now the streaming service includes them, but they seem to be scarce these days.
Good memories.
Yes...
“When I was younger
“I used to tip Smart cars for fun, yeah
“Actually, I didn’t do that
“’Cause I didn’t want the car to be sad...”
I was going to say that rolling them over was wrong, but it is tempting to stand one up on its end. Then I scrolled down and saw that that was what was done.
I have an alibi, however.
Don't think there would be a laugh if picked up by vandals, tho.
vaudine
I have a F-250 4wd. I prefer the intimidation route.
Next will be carrying them up stairs etc .LOL.
Never had any run-ins with carjackers, either! ;)
“I have a F-250 4wd. I prefer the intimidation route.”
I don’t blame you.
That said, how much does it cost to drive 40 miles in stop-n-go city traffic?
Doesn't it really depend upon how often one actually stops? It is a F250 4wd...
I think they are the cutest things - they look like roller skates. :-)!
