Status quo Republicans and Democrats will do everything they can to help two-term incumbent Senator Lindsey Graham in the upcoming primary.
Case in point: The South Carolina GOP Chairman Chad Connelly dropped out of a lawsuit (read here) intended to create a closed primary, meaning that to vote in the Republican primary, a voter would have to be a member of the Party. Now, the status quo continues. Any registered voter can vote in either primary, meaning that a weaker candidate whose views dont reflect the majority could get a boost by scamps, using their votes as a weapon.
Even South Carolina outsider Glenn Beck sees the writing on the wall. He said on his show: Ill tell you right now. The best friend the progressive democrats have is Lindsey Graham, and they cant lose that seat. They will do everything they can to help Lindsey Graham. Stu Burguiere, Becks co-host, questioned why South Carolina Republicans have not stopped democrats from voting in their primaries yet.
Beck even goes as far as calling South Carolina: The Soviet Republic of South Carolina.
In the presentation below, Attorney Samuel Harms reveals that over 22 percent of Democrats vote in Republican Party primaries.
So what can conservatives in SC do about this? The answer? Require a closed primary where only Republicans vote for Republicans. Harms explains the history of Greenville Countys closed primary lawsuit and recommends solutions on how we can truly turn SC into a red conservative state.
Apparently, Samuel Harms is taking his message on the road as a closed primary evangelist. He is speaking to groups in the upstate and his message is resonating with conservatives who want reform and change in the Republican Party.

If I was a SC resident and Grahamnesty got the nomination again I would NOT vote for him in the general election.
And why has the GOP of SC not changed this?
I imagine because it does not want to.
The Republican and Democrat parties are like Pro Wrestling: scripted battles to get the chumps fired up, distracting them from the real issues and real reform.
Yet the Stupid Party won’t close their primaries. Go figure.
but in the runoff there will be another open primary.
some of that is state law because in states like California or in NYC the primary IS the race.
“but in the runoff there will be another open primary.”
As I understand it, there would not. Only those that voted in the primary could vote in the runoff. And conservative votes would not be split.
But we’ll see.
I would NOT vote for him in the general election.
I wouldn’t either. No way I would vote for that limp-wristed clown. The repubs might consider changing their rules after losing the seat. The leadership of the republican party is an embarrassment.
“The GOP is crazy to allow open primaries. The party would be better served by closing primaries and becoming more insular.”
It depends on your perspective. Opening the GOP primaries to leftist Democrat voters ensures the “moderates”, globalists, and corporate capitalists will remain in control of the GOP. Closing the primaries benefits the conservative base.
Hence, the primaries will remain open.
Yes. But why don’t the fix it where they can? Who knows, some day they might even control a state legislature somewhere (like that could happen!) and make closed primaries the default.
My analogy is two organized crime families splitting up the territories, but yours is good too.
what the Republicans need to do is run a democrat challenger in the Democrat Primary so the democrat ringers stay on their own side of the aisle.
I have no doubt that my Marxist neighbors would register as Republican to vote for Graham.
I don’t live in SC, but would love to seen Lindsey gone from the Senate. But I’ve thought this open primary situation might make him unbeatable. The Dims know they are very unlikely to elect a Dim in SC now, so they crossover and vote for Lindsey and get pretty close on many issues.
Hence, the primaries will remain open.
You hit the nail on the head. That is exactly why. The Statists of both parties are quite happy with Open primaries. It only shows the insidiousness of their souls.
