Even Chicago isn’t hopeless. Just its politicians.
In July of 2013, Illinois became the last state in the union to enact a concealed carry law. In January of this year, the state began accepting applications for permits. This week, Chicago police announced that the citys first quarter murder rate was the lowest since 1958.
The first three months of the year saw 6 fewer murders than the same time frame in 2013a 9 percent dropand 55 fewer murders than 2012, according to a statement from Chicago Police.
There were 90 fewer shootings and 119 fewer shooting victims, drops of 26 and 29 percent respectively, according to police statistics.
Compared to the first quarter of 2012, there have been 222 fewer shootings and 292 fewer shooting victims. Overall crime is down 25 percent from last year, and police said more than 1,300 illegal guns were recovered in the last three months.
There’s no obvious explanation for the decline. Much of Chicago gun violence is gang driven. There’s no new administration or policy in place. And the economy isn’t exactly in great shape.
The irony here is rich.
CPD has been cooking the books for the past two decades. Rahm and Superintendent McStreetlightAssassin somehow want to prove that the ‘doing more with less’ and ‘smart-policing’ dodges will actually work against the beast on the streets of Chicago. So crime stats magically go down.
This, now that CCW is available, and after the city had spent 100s of millions fighting it.
Sorry, to try to justify what you are doing now seems to make you look an absolute fool for what you did ten minutes ago. Law Enforcement in Chicago is Insane.
Crime went down in Florida after conceal carry... and the drop started within days. Maybe criminals read the papers...
Turned out criminals liked gun control almost as much as liberal elites liked it - and strangely enough - criminals back democrats.
I’ve lost count of the number of times this articles been posted over the weekend, and I’ve said it before, so here goes again.
I live in the Chicago area. I work in Chicago. We’ve just gone thru the coldest four months on record, and have had the third snowiest winter on record. Temperature wise, were still well below norms.
Every winter here the murder rate drops. The gang bangers don’t like the cold. The crime rate drop has more to do with the fact that we’ve had such a brutally cold winter.
When the temperature gets back above sixty degrees or so on a consistent basis, there will be a HUGE spike in the number of murders in Chicago. That’s what happens every year here.
Conceal carry has been here a few short months, it’s way too early to attribute anything to it.
I say this as a CCW holder living in the Chicago area and working in the city. Those of you who do not live here don’t know what you’re talking about.
I anticipate there will be an increase in the coming months as the weather warms the sewers of Chicago and the street rats come up for fresh air.
Anyone know the statistics from this past weekend?
Coldest December-March in Chicago history

Climate change is a GOOD thing!
It was, but a lot of it had to do with the fact that we didn’t have all that many nuts in the West who figured, “hey, I need to kill a bunch of little boys and girls before blasting my mashed potatoes (a.k.a. my brain matter) out the other side of my head.” A lot of the actual “violent crime” involved holdups where a person held up someone else with a gun, and the person gave them the money, and the outlaw ran off with it. Most people figured letting the outlaw off was a better idea than risking really getting shot and killed. Putting up a full fight was also stupid because a whole populated town would open fire on you. We didn’t have quite the dense city populations that we have today, those are way different.

My adult hometown usually averages under 100 murders per year... and in just three nights in just the last 6 weeks, that's 22 shot and at least 10 dead. Not a good trend.
As I said "happens every year as soon as the temperature stays above 60."
