Representative Jim Moran (D-Va.) said on Monday that the $174,000 salary a member of Congress makes is not sufficient to live in the District of Columbia, even as he introduced legislation last month to raise the pay for federal workers by 3.3%an increase that would provide a salary 114% less than the average made by lawmakers.
I think the American people should know that the members of Congress are underpaid, Moran told CQ Roll Call. I understand that its widely felt that they underperform, but the fact is that this is the board of directors for the largest economic entity in the world.

“an increase that would provide a salary 114% less than the average made by lawmakers”
Well, the decline in American education has reached its nadir.
Lawmakers should get E-5 pay for what they do. Most are millionaires anyway.
Why doesn’t the drunken wife-beater and child-harasser just shut his pie-hole? He is the prime example that those congresspersons are extremely overpaid. What a pathetic clown...
“he (Moran) introduced legislation”
Sweet! A job where you can give yourself a raise.
Someone get a rope ...
Oddly, if Mr Moron wants us to believe him, it is enough pay to make most Congressmen in DC millionaires. He only talks about his salary. How about adding all the perks, retirement and health benefits! Sorry, but he should live with the dollar he has inflated.
How about doing something for America instead? Something like drastically cutting back on all federal salary and benefits? You know, give the people actually pulling the cart a bit of a break for once.
It's largely about Wealth.
What is the Moron's Wealth?

A cheaper and more effective solution would be to bring the United States Congress into the 21st century. There has been the suggestion that having members of Congress stay close to their constitutuants is a good thing for the political process; now Congress has a monetary reason to "go virtual". If you don't have to spend money for a second residence (even reside in your government office), travel, more office drones, and the space for those drones, it's money taken out of the debt.
Move congress to Kansas or Oklahoma.
Sure, also a dozen of vassals and a hundred of serfs.
FedGov “workers” are already 100% overpaid....
I'd be satisfied with a mere 100% less.
Moran wants us to pay for his bad stock trades and losing his rich third wife ... in 2007 he was worth 12.5 million ... pissed it away and now wants the taxpayers to cry him a river!
Apparently the Guy (Moron) needs to take lessons from the ever successful, serial, gigolo JF’nK.
Give then the minimum wage.
Yes you’re right ... old Lurch is hanging on to Teresa like stink on Limburger!
C’mon. This is a semi-satire article, right?
It’s a great Gig....
Apparently wif #1 croaked fairly recently. (She lived in or near Bozeman, Mont.)
