Conservative activist launches boycott of Firefox browser

Ben Shapiro of the website TruthRevolt isn't taking the actions of gay activists who forced CEO Brenden Eich out of his CEO position at Mozilla lying down. In fact, Shapiro has called for a boycott of Mozilla's Firefox browser as a way for conservatives to show their displeasure with the outrageous intolerance demonstrated by gay activistis.

Conservative activist Ben Shapiro is leading up an online charge of fellow political compadres to boycott the browser Firefox — an outraged response to the Mozilla chief’s departure from his CEO role due to gay rights’ protests.

Former CEO Brendan Eich, who’s been with Mozilla since its creation and actually helped found the company’s charitable offshoot foundation in 1998, announced this week he’s stepping down from the role over a flap generated by a $1,000 donation he made to a California campaign that sought to ban same-sex marriage in the state.

Thanks for posting the links. I’m surprised Mozilla even leaves that customer feedback page up there. Once a company gets involved in a situation where people are unhappy over something that his no direct relationship to the company’s products and services, that kind of web portal really causes nothing but serious damage to the brand.

Actually, I think you are missing the point on this one. In the case of Chick-Fil-A, the company was the target of the attack because of its leader's conservative credentials ... and therefore became the subject of a "buy-cott" by conservative supporters.

In the case of Duck Dynasty, the threat of a massive loss of viewers (i.e., a BOYCOTT) is what made A&E back down.

Brendan Rich is today's version of Phil Robertson. And Mozilla is the new A&E. Hence, the boycott of all Mozilla products.

I just started using Opera (finally a boycott of something I was actually using). My only complaints so far are than I can't import and organize my IE or Firefox bookmarks and can't make Duck Duck Go my default search engine.

It actually solves another problem I had with IE 11 that made me switch to Firefox in the first place. IE 11 was opening blank pages when I'd click on certain links.

Not really. Robertson didn't resign and then apologize to those who were supposedly offended.

Eich took his golden patachute and bailed. He didn't take a moral stand for what he believed. I'm sure his severance package inured a keep your "bigoted" mouth shut clause.

I have been using Opera and I like it. I changed it over to my default for all programs yesterday. Less jerky than fagfox was.

I see your point. I was looking at this in a different context.

Eich isn't really the issue here ... it's the principle at stake. A boycott of Mozilla isn't the same as a boycott of A&E because there's no similarity between the two "remedies" that principled conservatives should be looking for.

In the case of A&E, the message was clear: Get Phil Robertson back on the air, or we're turning off your station.

In the case of Mozilla, there's no similar remedy because Eich would have no compelling reason to go back and work for the bastards that run the company. He took the money and ran -- which is exactly what he should have done because there's no way in hell he would have been able to work in that position anyway. The "remedy" in this case is to drive Mozilla out of business so it doesn't matter who the 'effing CEO is.

That's the complaint I have against the browser. I got so frustrated with it I uninstalled it and went to Safari instead. It's a bit hinky but I can handle it.

Just removed Firefox from 4 computers... Opera is just as good and has Lastpass and Ghostery in case anyone wants to help make them #2 browser... http://www.opera.com
