Since 1994, when Harris first began polling a large sample (2,311 this year) of Americans with the simple question "Who is your favorite movie star?", only one actor has made the top ten every year and only one actor has made it posthumously: John Wayne. In 2014, The Duke did it again, placing 7th -- holding the same spot he held last year.

Looking at the other names on the list, I would have put Wayne at first.
And why shouldn’t he be there? His movies are enjoyable (yeah even the really old oaters). I still think The Quiet Man is one of the best movies ever made. His work with Maureen O’Hara over the course of several movies plus he and Late Hepburn in Rooster Cogburn are my go to movies for a truly lovely evening
Unlike the others on the list, he did not consider his celebrity as a reason to push his POV.
George cLooney is the most overrated, one dimensional actor in Hollywood.
Considering the fact that The Duke has been dead for over 30 years, the top ten listing is saying something.
True Grit - Best John Wayne film in this house.
George Clooney is also way overrated as a heartthrob
He’s a narcissist, not even gay, just all about G.
Not a good movie in his catalogue
Good ole John Wayne ... a great actor!
Raise your hand if you have a signed autograph from The Duke.
Uhm I Do!
The Duke passed terds bigger than Clooney, Streep, Damon, etc.
Ok
I’ll start a top 4 like Imus’ musical mt rushmore
Just winging it:
Bogie
Hepburn
Jennifer Lawrence
Paul Newman
Those somewhat-overlooked “rambunctious” ‘60s comedies like “McLintock!” and “North to Alaska” are big fun!
Oops ... Forgot “Donovan’s Reef” as well!
Well I guess the fact that this is about popular and not talented explains the others, Damon, what a hack.
“George cLooney is the most overrated, one dimensional actor in Hollywood.”

John Wayne was also one-dimensional. He was John Wayne playing John Wayne—over and over and over again.Only the wardrobe changed.
.
I dont’ see Heston on that list, what rubbish.
Well, at least I got Charlton Heston and Rod Steiger! Also Alec Guiness!
I disagree. We own a number of John Waynes films both early as well as later movies. He was a far better actor than George cLooney is.
It is true that he was typecast, but nonetheless, John Wayne was a good actor.
Only current guys I like are Russell Crowe,Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell.&Matthew McConnaughey.Lots iof fine single performances from lower-level non -star actors always more satisfying from the usual star turns in vehicles designed only to promote and sell the star, and hence, the film. Clooney, Damon, and a bunch of others fit this category. The old -timers look better everytime I see them in a movie:Jimmy Stewart, Gable, Lee J. Cobb, Fredric March, Gary Cooper. But towering above them all is my odd favorite movie actor in American film: Walter Huston. See Dodsworth , from the mid-30s, to see the most pitch-perfect performance ever.
