Support for a Bush candidacy is building far beyond Florida.
At a gathering of prominent conservatives in Las Vegas last weekend where presidential hopefuls kissed the ring of billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson Bush was among those who puckered up. And the donors liked what they saw.
"GOP elite hoping to lure Jeb Bush," trumpeted the headline at the top of the Washington Post's Sunday-morning paper.
Some see Bush as the party's best hope.
Others see weaknesses ripe for exploitation.
I think both sides are right.
Right now, Florida's 43rd governor towers above most of the other Republicans toying with a presidential run.
Other guys may have their moments in the sun, temporarily firing up the base with a wisecrack, filibuster or fiery talk-show appearance. But their moments are fleeting.
"None of these big donors think Rand Paul is going to win. None think Ted Cruz is going to win," MSNBC's house conservative, Joe Scarborough, told his audience Monday. "None of these big donors think ... any of these people can win. They think Jeb can win the nomination."
I agree with Joe. Of the party's current crop, he is the GOP's best shot a guy with a track record of doing, rather than simply yapping.

I think some of this is “slow news day” stories, though it’s not a slow news day. Really has me wondering. No way, will JB become the GOP nomination, no way.
I think it is a head fake. He is meant to take the heat while they position a different empty suit to be anointed. Remember the convention rules were changed to give the nomenklatura a lock.
Anything which rhymes with ‘gush’ is a feint. They’ll impose some Fordolomney, Max Headroom type of clone, or may get crazy and add a dash of comino with Rubio. It won’t be conservative and most conservatives will vote, slump shouldered and defeated, for the Trojan horse liberal once again.
No, Scott, it is not gaining steam. You are trying to give it steam. Nice try, no sale.
Just changed my tagline.
You are giving it steam, nice try. I won’t vote for Jeb Bush.
STAY OUT THE BUSHES!.......J, Jackson 2000 something
The conservative vote will be split among Paul (libertarian conservatives), Cruz (neoconservatives), and Huckabee (social conservatives).
Christie has been eliminated leaving the way free for Bush to waltz in and breeze through the primaries so he can save cash for the run against Hillary.
Our only hope is that Mitt's ego, stubbornness, and lack of self-reflection lead him to enter the race as well to take away some of Bush's vote.
Right now I'm leaning toward voting for someone with executive experience like Perry or Walker or even Kasich.
All governors, even Reagan, have less than stellar conservative credentials because they had to compromise with Democrats in their states to get things done.
Cruz and Paul never have to compromise because they don't have to get anything done. All they have to do is vote the right way. It's especially easy for them being in the minority to play the role of conservative purists.
This country is to big to be run by amateurs and master debaters. We see what is happening with Obama. We don't want a repeat.
I am sure the Democrats would Love the GOP to pick Jeb Bush—so would the losing RINOs who want a Democratic Victory—anyone with some sense or the right skin tone could beat Jeb Bush. Hillary could, Holder, Michele Obama, So the Media will try to force this down the throats of the American People like they did the Obamacare debaucle. Jeb should bow out—while they paint every Conservative as too extream for Progressive America.
Someone else can vote for him.
I won’t.
Ever.
And Hillary? Give me a break, the wench is nothing...and I’ll debate with anyone on the idea that Sarah Palin would clean the wench’s clock in an honest debate.
What is it with these stupid Whigs. They act like getting the nomination is the ultimate goal. And what are “conservatives” doing sucking up to Sheldon Adelson? He hates Conservatives as much as the child molesters.
If the GOP shoves Jeb down our throats in the primary I will vote for the Democrat, whoever it is, in the general out of spite.
This paper is really in the tank for ‘ol Jebbie, aren’t they?
They have a poll posted on the sidebar of this linked article, asking if Jebbie should run in 2016. It needs serious FReeping!!
I can’t post the link to poll as I already voted (NO!) and it won’t let me go back to the original poll/question page :(
As a Florida resident, I’d much rather have Wisconsin’s Walker in 2016.
Stupid Party is right!
... but it will free up my time, not having to choose between a RINO and a Liberal.
Maybe Hillary can appoint Jeb Sec. of Transportation, the usual spot for the token Republican in Democrat administrations. He’s such a needy wimp that he’d probably wag his tail and lick her hand.
Any presidential candidate with the name ‘Bush’ attached will receive a lower turnout than Romney got!
Adelson is also pro abortion and pro gay marriage but he was the great hero of FR in 2012. He openly admitted to keeping Gingrich in the race when he had no chance so it would prevent Santorum from winning. (to hand it to Romney)
