Kentucky GOP Sen. Rand Paul told fellow Republicans on Tuesday that the future of their party depends on them connecting with Hispanics in a more empathetic way and on getting in front of immigration reform a message that further signals his flirtation with a 2016 presidential run.
If we are to change peoples attitudes toward the Republican Party, we have to show up and we have to have something to say, Paul told a small group of conservatives gathered at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. I hope to be part of that dialogue.
This certainly was not the first time that Paul, since being elected to the Senate in 2010, has attempted to connect with Hispanics and other minorities.
However, Republicans interest in his policy vision and his vision for broadening the party base continues to grow as he ascends in the very, very early 2016 polls and travels the country. Recent stops have included those in Democrat-heavy Detroit and at the University of California, Berkeley.....

You are insinuating untrue things. Shame on you.
Whatever I say that you can twist, you do twist.
Paul opposes DOMA.
Paul is not running for governor of Kentucky, he is a Senator running for President, yet instead of coming out against gay marriage at the federal level, in the military, federal employment, and immigration, Paul came out for gay marriage, and to remove it from the party platform.
Now we see Paul taking a liberal/libertarian stand on immigration.
Paul opposed DOMA when it was passed (watch your verb tenses, you misleading one you); he also nixed a lot of other seemingly slam dunk legislation. Because he felt it unnecessary. Turns out DOMA was a paper tiger and only added to the uncertainty. It might have made conservatives OVERconfident, if anything. If governments had kept a minimalist philosophy like Paul believed in, in the first place, we’d never have gotten decisions like Kentucky.
Paul “OPPOSES” DOMA.
Paul is not running for governor of Kentucky, he is a Senator running for President, yet instead of coming out against gay marriage at the federal level, in the military, federal employment, and immigration, Paul came out for gay marriage, and to remove it from the party platform.
You can’t just keep making things up, distorting things, and slipping away to sidetrack clear points.
Document your present-tense accusation; and even there, it’s in keeping with a philosophy of not setting up paper tigers that make conservatives overconfident.
The idiot has been listening to too many DC consultants.
By the way you are the distorting and twisting one.
Paul is anti-DOMA, you claim that he has switched his position and now supports it, care to link us to this new position that you keep claiming he switched to?
Then you can explain why a presidential candidate would support gay marriage at the federal level in the military, in immigration law and in federal employment.
Okay, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops does have positions on immigration, official.
(From 2013)
“The U.S. Catholic Bishops accept the legitimate role of the U.S. government in intercepting unauthorized migrants who attempt to travel to the United States....”
I’ve read the positions in depth, let’s try to go from their official pronouncements. I don’t even mean to take one quote out of context here. But I do think this is an important quote and there view of this might not be as simple as your post implies.
I believe the Catholic Church respects the sovereignty of nations, of borders and does respect that a nation need not give itself over just because millions of new faces show up.
Ron and Rand I’m sure, see this as a matter for the States.
Unfortunately, nowadays, we probably will not be able to get a national referendum on the definition of Marriage but individual States, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Texas, California should be able to have self-determination on what they want marriage to be and as we all know, judges stiffed California voters.
Judges? Or was it just one judge in California, however, that was grossly unfair.
Very good summary.
Paul is not running for governor of Kentucky, he is a Senator running for President, yet instead of coming out against gay marriage at the federal level, in the military, federal employment, and immigration, Paul came out for gay marriage, and to remove it from the party platform.
You have proven that you are a dishonest propagandist for gay marriage and Paul.
"Paul opposed DOMA when it was passed (watch your verb tenses, you misleading one you)"
"By the way you are the distorting and twisting one."
"Document your present-tense accusation; and even there, its in keeping with a philosophy of not setting up paper tigers that make conservatives overconfident." "You are insinuating untrue things. Shame on you."
"Also you misread 47, but that isnt surprising; you misread most things to try to fit everything in your little box."
"DOMA was meant to do that and it got struck down. Im not sure what else youd want."
"Back when it was proposed. Paul was a dissenter in a lot of things. "
DOMA was PASSED IN 1996, Paul opposes it today. You have repeatedly lied about Paul on this thread, while repeatedly accusing me of lying about Paul.
You made a very serious and dishonest effort to mislead this thread, you should apologize.
You also continued to protect gay marriage all along, by defending Paul and the libertarian acceptance of gay marriage.
Paul is not running for governor of Kentucky, he is a Senator running for President, yet instead of coming out against gay marriage at the federal level, in the military, federal employment, and immigration, Paul came out for gay marriage, and an effort to remove it from the party platform.
Democrat punk.
Personally, I would rather see this country and everything it represents disapear from the face of the earth forever, than lower myself to courting Mexicans who have broken our laws and violated our borders. It makes me phjysically ill to even think about it.
I hope to God this ends the TR herd support of this fraud. Like his father, he may be good on some issues but is really a flake on major others.
You keep on taking me out of context then calling it lies. What use is there with reasoning with you? You keep on smearing, smearing, smearing, taking what I say in the way that you wish I had said it so you have something more to smear.
You have a problem with swallowing camels and straining out gnats. A government as small and accountable as what the Founders envisioned wouldn’t have ever dared to think it could innovate a new kind of “marriage.” You think you can hold a gargantuan government accountable? It is to laugh.
I didn’t take your deliberately dishonest claims about Paul and DOMA out of context, you were lying, to propagandize a pro-gay marriage libertarian position and candidate.
You are also misleading freepers on marriage at the federal level, the federal level of gay marriage in the military, federal employment and immigration fits completely with Rand Paul’s gay marriage position and is something he obviously supports as he promotes your position on the GOP to be changed to accepting gay marriage.
The founders DID recognize Massachusetts, New York, etc., marriage law, at the federal level.
