Bags of Mountain Air Offered in Smog-Addled Chinese City

Proving that China’s fight against pollution has moved decisively into the realm of parody, bags containing mountain air were shipped into one particularly smog-addled city over the weekend.

No, it wasn’t a scene from Spaceballs. According to the organizer, a Henan-based travel company, 20 bright blue bags of air were shipped to Zhengzhou, capital of central China’s Henan province, as a special treat for residents. The air originated from Laojun Mountain, some 120 miles away from the city, and was brought as part of a promotional gimmick to show oxygen-deprived city residents what they’re missing.

We could corner this market. Once we unload all their plastic junk we get from them, the shipping containers we ship back are just filled with air anyway.

Now that’s a great idea for the EPA and the gas passing cows, they can tape a plastic bag on their butts and capture the gas and sell it on ebay.

We’re booked on an asian cruise with a 2 day end stop&stay in Beijing.. I may see if I can qualify for an air tank and bring a couple with..

I thought China doesn’t officially have a smog problem??

During the Beijing Olympics, officials said that the haze hanging over the city was mist or fog, not pollution, not smog.

Officially anyway, a totalitarian government can deny having any particular problem which the rest of us see with our own eyes.
