Stop reporting enrollment and start reporting policies in force
ACA Death Spiral ^ | 3/31/14 | ACA Death Spiral

In theory, open enrollment ends tonight. No longer can individuals without any excuse whatsoever wait to purchase health insurance policies on the Exchanges that will be in effect during 2014. I very much expect we will hear numbers over the next few days such as 6.5 million or 7 million bandied about as “enrollment figures.” Many supporters of the ideas behind the original ACA who have managed to tolerate its metamorphosis over the past year will herald those numbers as signs of success. And, indeed, those numbers are considerably better than many had feared. I, for one, am prepared to confess that I may have been too pessimistic in the past about first year enrollment in the ACA. My pessimism is all the more glaring because the enrollment numbers are apparently coming notwithstanding the Obama administration’s decision to tie its hands behind its back by creating a new opportunity to evade the individual mandate via an undocumented “hardship exemption” and to delay making a purchase decision based on “honor system” claims of difficulties in accessing healthcare.gov or state enrollment systems.

In reality up to one quarter of those "enrolled" as of 12/31/2013 may have now left the exchanges, and these were the real sickies.

Essentially eligibility for Medicaid has been expanded. These new “policies” will cost the government a fortune if they are actually implemented.

You can expect Barry and his boys to “revise” these numbers downward after the November elections. Lies, lies, lies. The people living in this country are so gullible. The Obamanoids didn’t have a clue what these numbers were when they were testifying before Congress. Now, on April Fools Day, they can get them together OVERNIGHT! Freaking amazing! I read where Barry’s puppetmaster, Valerie Jarrett, also signed up for ObamaCare. You know she has no intent of ever following through with it and purchasing a plan. She was just doing what a lot of other commie ‘RATS were doing yesterday. Pushing up Barry’s miserable ObamaCare numbers with no intention of ever purchasing a plan.

Absolutely! We’ll get right on that, just after we start reporting honest inflation numbers and accurate employment numbers!

You are correct in part, but not when it comes to the enrollment figures. The Medicaid count is separate from these numbers however.

This is what government does, if the numbers are not in your favor change the way you count them. Anyone familiar with any type of insurance knows that there is no policy until a payment has been made. They were able to change the narrative, again. Pray.

I equate these numbers with what happens to poll numbers when a FReeper posts a “FReep This Poll” thread.

Lots and lots of thunder and lightening, very little rubber on the road.

Islam prohibits insurance. Government run healthcare is the answer to this problem during the next phase of Obamacare.

Wait until the payment defaults statistics pile up.

The insurance companies will base their next year offerings on cold reality. I wonder how Obama will repress the insurance company records.

Just another case of deception by assumption.

We think enrollments as the initiation of a subscription involving payments, or the enforceable commitment to pay.

They (DHS)change their definition to lower the bar (never raise the bar) to either visit to a website, requests for information, capturing email address and phone numbers, pending deposit; or some combination of the above.

Whatever suits them to publish whatever number they feel like. But they don’t tell us their definition, or make it clear.
