Did he? I've read some of it, nothing I would rate higher than a C-. Where was the B stuff?

I liked Battlefield Earth. The rest, not so much.

Shortly after I graduated High School, I tried to read Dianetics. I didn't make it all the way through. It is my opinion that anyone who uses the phrase "scientific fact" as often as was used in the book was talking about something that had nothing whatsoever to do with science.

I knew people who had been in scientology for years and never succeeded in reading the dianetics book.

Me? I read it cover to cover in one night, go figure...

Support group for introverts. Introverted people find the same results when they mature and stand up for themselves by any means. All these types of organizations, including Landmark that exists today, target the introverted.

Ironically, the people ‘helped’ by these types of scam artists never seem to question the scam artists using their newly found extroverted skills.

I think the best class for introverts is the Dale Carnegie training. They at least tell you they will help you to communicate and think for yourself. No strings attached. It is all about the fees you pay for the courses.

The back story on that must be pretty interesting...

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that so many Hollywierdos were avid Clintoon supporters, and that Scientoloons are rampant in Hollywood.

including Landmark

Landmark is nothing more than Werner Earhardt's "est" repackaged.

With clinton, I’d bet a goodly chunk of money exchanged hands as well.

You don’t say so, but I’m sure you recognize that there are dozens, if not hundreds, of techniques that could have gotten you that same clarity of mind that have no need to wrap their thinking up in pseudo religious terms.

Name some. It's been my observation that many "experts" in the field of psychology are basket cases and/or nut jobs. I've had psychology teachers in college that seemed ready to go off the deep end, and I was supposed to learn from them? One of my wife's brothers graduated with a psychology degree and he spouts babble. He had trouble landing a job, eventually becoming a car salesman and now works as a TSA agent. He's a mental disaster. Many of these other techniques you may be speaking of, have misguided adherents who operate with the same zeal as followers of religion.

“Scientology is an excellent case study in propaganda. It’s frightening to think how easy it was for a motivated and unscrupulous organization the infiltrate the media and some elements of the government and spread a wildly distorted and inaccurate view of themselves and their goals.”

Indeed.

Scientology is manifest as the closest thing to a verifiably ruthless religious mafia, which makes merchandi$e of both people as well as foundational principals of a free republic, while the later must also have laws that are to restrain abuse. The First Amendment was instituted in response to a request from pious religion, and enables normal ideological expression, though not all actions, but overall presumes upon a sufficiency wise and benevolent government to know the difference. However, the ideology of Scientology at it’s core and by it’s historical implementation has made a mockery of the First Amendment, religion, and judicial laws, and is a far cry from what the Founders meant by freedom of religion and speech.

The violations of free speech by Scientology is not that of yelling “Fire” in a packed movie theater, but that of purposely, knowingly, and i think selfishly, using deceit and increasingly coercive and manipulative methods to entrap it’s “audience,” for “filthy lucre.” And which entail actions which are beyond the freedoms granted by the First Amendment. When a religious mafia joins with law enforcement, and the judiciary, and even the press (their last challenge), then it is not simply a weird religion, but a constantly dangerous to life and civil freedom org. And rather than their modus operandi being an aberration in contrast to their founder’s principals and precepts, they are found to be consistent with them.

Part of a Federal Indictment against Scientology for Conspiracy against the Federal Government of the United States:

“The crime committed by these defendants is of a breadth and scope previously unheard of. No building, office, desk, or file was safe from their snooping and prying. No individual or organization was free from their despicable conspiratorial minds. The tools of their trade were miniature transmitters, lock picks, secret codes, forged credentials and any other device they found necessary to carry out their conspiratorial schemes.”
–Federal prosecutor’s memorandum to the judge urging stiff jail sentences for 9 top leaders of Scientology who had pleaded guilty to criminal charges

The court record is] replete with evidence [that Scientology] is nothing in reality but a vast enterprise to extract the maximum amount of money from its adepts by pseudo scientific theories… and to exercise a kind of blackmail against persons who do not wish to continue with their sect…. The organization clearly is schizophrenic and paranoid, and this bizarre combination seems to be a reflection of its founder, L.Ron Hubbard.” – Judge Breckenridge, Los Angeles Superior Court

You are talking about people, I’m talking about techniques for reaching clarity of mind (whatever that really is). The technique is not to blame for how screwy the people are.

I, too, have seem my fair share of screwy folks in the field.

You're right, I'm talking about people. One psychology professor I had at my university had nervous ticks in his hands and arms. He reminded me of Dr. Strangelove, although having no confidence when lecturing. He had a habit of slowly jerking his hand up to smooth over his hair, repeatedly during his talks. I half expected him to give a nazi salute.
