Less than 24 hours after the News 2 Investigative Unit aired a story about a fireman getting handcuffed during a 911 call, the State Fire Marshal's Office launched an investigation into the incident.
It happened Monday night in the 100 block of Cherry Street. According to witnesses, a firefighter rendering aid during a medical call was asked to move his fire truck. The fire truck had flashing lights turned on and was parked on the side of the street. When he refused, a New Roads Police officer handcuffed and detained the fireman.

Initially, New Roads Police Chief Kevin McDonald told News 2 the issue was resolved. Less than 24 hours later, he said his department will comply with the State Fire Marshal's investigation.
"I have tasked detectives today to begin that investigation," Deputy Chief Brant Thompson said. "They will be conducting interviews and other information concerning what is seen as a very unfortunate incident that occurred in New Roads."

On Wednesday, New Roads Police Chief Kevin McDonald claimed the fireman made a sarcastic remark to his officer when he asked him to move his truck, which is why he was detained. McDonald reiterated that he has no plans to discipline the officer.

The New Roads Fire Chief told News 2 he didn't want to comment because he has to work closely with the town police. He did say his firefighter did everything he was supposed to do.

There is an update on that case.
Odd, it seems as if firefighters are getting a lot more “forgiving” than I recall them ever being. Was a time when arresting a firefighter on scene over a parked vehicle, while he was providing patient care, would have ended badly for Officer Incompetent.
Maybe I’ve just spent too much time around Irish fireFighters.
Stories like this illustrate why many states specify via legislation that Fire/EMS have control of emergency scenes and not the local ticket-pushers. Restraining a first-responder while said person is providing patient care is fifty-thousand shades of stupid.
no fire fighters in “the village people”
Better not expect mutual aid or promptness when this officer needs them...
Note to firefighters: leave the Dalmatian home, otherwise your fire becomes a vicious dog attack-shooting by doughnut chomper.
Actually, the fireman was lucky the cop did not shoot him.
“I was in fear of my life.” That covers all the sins. The bullets start flying immediately.
good thing the Dalmatian wasn’t there
Firefighters try to help. Paramedics try to help. Police officers, not so much.
Just had a guy on the local news about the Oso Landslide in Washington. He said he could hear a baby crying and nobody was going in. He started to go in and they said he couldn’t - it was too dangerous. He had a few choice words for them.
There was a photo of him on top of the mud pile carrying the baby out. Other non-official people in the background helping the mom that was still trapped. (The guy asked the mom (two broken legs and trapped “Is it okay if I take your baby?”). Mom is out of the hospital, and the baby is improving.
The folks in those small mountain communities are real close. Whoever was telling them not to go in was smart though in not trying to arrest them. The fatality count would have gone higher.
What amazes me about this is it is not too far from where the idiot cops got themselves in trouble arresting the officials at a high school football game. Are the police there so insular that they did not even hear about the Covington incident?
I suspect this is going to end badly for the cop and the chief of police who is apparently to stupid to know in the calm light of day his guy was way out of line.
And the libs don’t give a second thought to let such people open carry...most of them are very poor shots (I’ve watched the at the range when they qualify). But give them a badge and any loonie can carry a gun...but I can’t?
Gilleon said there have been other tensions between the CHP and Chula Vista firefighters at freeway crash scenes, including one in 2010 and one two weeks after Gregoires detention.
I mean involve with many emergency scenes.
Just because it is a big emergency vehicle doesn’t mean it should just be parked any where.
There are many reason to want it moved after it arrived.
To ease the flow of traffic, to offer better protection, not to create a bigger hazard. Are just three of them.
I seen both police, fire and EMS get a hard on over who is right.
Who was the OIC, the matter should have been taken up with them.
Firemen are not always right nor are police or EMS.
What's a policeman to do? Just go for the nearest people to handcuff. Not as fun as shooting but there was probably at least a small power surge.
The hydrant in front of his house just got ‘disabled’.
Methinks that fire department will be slow to respond to any calls for help involving an officer’s house on fire or a dangerous car accident......
