Darren Aronofsky's controversial biblical epic Noah is winning over faith-based and mainstream moviegoers alike at the North American box office, ending weeks of speculation as to whether the filmmaker's darker take on the story of Noah and his Ark would be a turnoff for more devout moviegoers.
The Paramount and New Regency movie easily topped the Friday chart with $15.2 million from 3,567 theaters for a projected $41 million to $43 million weekend, a strong start. Overseas, Noah is likewise prospering, grossing an early $28.3 million from only 21 markets (many of those opened Friday) and coming in ahead of Gravity. The film's global total through Friday was $43.5 million.
In North America, Noah received a C CinemaScore, indicating that it is still polarizing. But Christian moviegoers are turning out in force. According to those with access to grosses, half of the theaters doing the most business on Friday were in cities traditionally considered faith-based markets, including Salt Lake City, Reno, Tulsa, Mobile, Ala., Houston, San Antonio, and Orlando. Hispanics, many of whom are Catholic, are helping to fuel the film. (Hispanics are the most avid moviegoers in the U.S.)

And what do you expect from a director who is a "card-carrying ATHEIST"!
Noah, The Film: All Washed Up
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/3138756/posts
The pre-release advertising promoting the movie Noah made a point of stating that while the director took artistic license in the production it was still faithful to the biblical story. Early theater previews were carefully edited to appeal to people of faith, but this is the least biblical biblical film of all time!
However, to be charitable, the bare outline of the Flood story is present, but after that artistic license has taken the film so far afield of anything resembling the Bible that it is offensive to people of faith. To say that the biblical story was watered down (pardon the pun) is much too mild.
Those who know the Bible were aware of how little the script followed Scripture. Those who didnt know the Bible still didn’t know it when the final credits appeared. It is to the movie studios credit that they chose to even make a film with a biblical theme, but the torturous fiction that was the final cut partly written and directed by an atheist is a discredit to both the studio and the actors and is, in result, worse than having not made it at all. Remember the old adage of making a bottle of poison look nicer by removing the ugly skull and crossbones label and replacing it with one that read essence of peppermint? The bottle now looks pretty, but is even more deadly because of its deceptive label.
To a generation that already rejects the Genesis account as pure fiction, mixing a little Bible with a film of impure fiction is even worse and certainly more dangerous to faith. For those who have not seen the movie and may think my judgments too harsh, please consider the following.

I was at a Christian book store (part of a chain) in Ft Worth years ago that didn’t have one copy of the KJV Bible. They had plenty of trinkets and such and other bibles that were more “modern”.
The people who get their biblical views from the movie are the same people who get their news from late night comedy shows.
Something from Answers in Genesis ...
Noah Movie Review: An Unbiblical Film
A group of Answers in Genesis staff attended the opening of Noah last night in a local movie theater. With all the Hollywood hype and news surrounding the controversial film, we were surprised at the low turnout, with only twelve other people in the theater. We had heard many negative reports but were hopeful, based on other comments, that there may have been some redeeming qualities of the film. However, those hopes were dashed against the rocks harder than Hollywoods ark when it ran aground in the film. This point should be one that jars us to attention, realizing that our hope is not in a Hollywood film but in something infinitely more redeeming in quality: the person and work of Jesus Christ.
There are four elements from the biblical account that you will recognize in this film, but little else from Genesis 69. First, of course, there is a man named Noah, and he has three sons with the biblical names. Second, Noah builds an ark that is true to the biblical proportions (though it did not look seaworthy) and there were lots of animals that came to him and were on board (though far more creatures were crammed inside than were needed). Third, there is a flood that appears to cover the entire globe (though its not explicitly taught). Fourth, mankind is depicted as extremely wicked (but because the films agenda is more about the environment, mans wickedness was not so much sin against God but in how people were destroying the earth).
Ultimately, there is barely a hint of biblical accuracy in this almost two-and-a-half-hour film. But beyond being shocked at the massive distortions of Gods Word in Noah, we can recognize one opportunity: if you know of someone who has gone ahead and watched Noah (even with all the cautions AiG and others have presented about this unbiblical film), you can point a non-Christian toward trusting in Gods Word and the forgiveness offered in Jesus.
Here are just a few more of the many concerns with what we are calling a pagan film. (A more detailed review will be posted on the weekend that will point out many of the films pagan elements.)

The story of the flood can be found in more than one ancient people. They could have used some other backdrop for this movie than the biblical Noah.
...
Honest.
Defining Christianity down.
It only drew $15 million on its first weekend. Unless it pulls a Titanic, where it can draw that amount every week for the next year, it’ll be out of theatres in a few weeks at most.
Some people love sci-fi and Hollyweird outdid themselves on this one.
I don’t mind science fiction movies, as long as they’re not trying to tell me that this is actually what is going on ... LOL ...
Here’s what the producers of the movie were saying before it came out ...
“The pre-release advertising promoting the movie Noah made a point of stating that while the director took artistic license in the production it was still faithful to the biblical story.” [ ... ]
The producers tried to keep these details secret from the faith-based public in order to not have a backlash from negative reviews that would affect the all important opening weekend box office. I learned about some of these details last year from a French graphic novel (which I was shown in Germany) upon which the films script was based.
As far as I know this was not translated or released to the English-speaking market, presumably to prevent these fictional elements from getting out to the faith-based American audience. Now, the secret is out and it is hoped that informed audiences will, like Noah in the film, judge this parody of the biblical account, unworthy of cinematic salvation.

You couldn’t pay me to watch that garbage..its nothing but left wing crap, just a bunch of global warming, people are evil BS
Going to see “God’s not Dead” in a theater tomorrow but will not see Noah.
Heard too much negative news from friends who watched it.
I love Sci-Fi and fantasy, but I can't stomach propaganda! This movie will join others like that abysmal piece of propaganda with all the blue "people", on my list of never to watch even when it's free.
a marvelous albeit sad analogy.
snippets should be available on yotube soon
were this a mooselim movie...RIOTS would result.
It did $15 million on its first day. That's better than Gravity did on its first day. Which is not to say it will continue to do well once the word of mouth spreads.
I don't need Athiests or hypocritical Christians to tell me what movies I should or should not watch........
Movies are for entertainment purposes only, not biblical prophesy and I view them as such............
People such as you need to get a life.......
If you don't like the movie, fine, but don't don't preach to me and tell me what I should or should not watch..........
With all that being said, tell me Star Traveler, what exactly about this movie turned you so hostile against it? You did watch it right?
I read where there are like nine different fantasy stories imbedded in that movie - stone people for heaven’s sake plus others.
Moslem countries are refusing to permit it to be shown, because Noah is a figure in the Koran.
Agreed. But they did not.
