They’d do better if they’d just make themselves their own country by seceding.
If Washington says, “You can’t do that,” Alaskans can say, “Come try and stop us.”

Although America is far better a place to live than Russia, I think Obama and Putin are basically the same person.

There is one major problem with your comment. You said the people of Minnesota were thinking; the problem is they don’t give thought to anything they do and neither do the people of New York.

All joking aside, I had a neighbor when we lived in the MatSu, homesteaded his place in 1942. I once asked him if he ever thought Alaska would become it's own commonwealth or country. He said no way, Alaskans are becoming more like Americans everyday; and I have to agree with him. We don't have all your taxes and have way more freedom than you all down there can even fathom; but always will be tied socially, economically, and politically to the USA.

Lots of Russkies here already, but they left Russia for a reason and none want to go back. They'll say that some things are better there like healthcare and everybody gets a govt sponsored 2 week vacation on a cabin on the blk sea, but economics is light years ahead here. I have one Russian buddy, his wife is a lefty, but my buddy is conservative and they like life in Alaska. Got their citizenship and bought their first house last year, achieving the American DReam he told me. H does think Russian Hockey is still better than USA. Russkies in Alaska are just like all other Americans, and their kids speak English like our kids do, without a Russian Accent.

If the federal tyranny cannot be reversed, these independence, separatist & secessionist movements are really all that’s left.
Even if this petition is a joke, I doubt ten years ago that anyone in Alaska would have considered signing such a petition as a joke.

If it did happen, then Sarah Palin WOULD be able to see Russia from her house, unless, of course, she’s living in Arizona.

I say we start a website and raise enough money to send these assholes to Russia if they are so inclined.

One month in that communist hell hole and they would be begging for their citizenship back.

“You don’t HAVE to reside in Alaska to sign the petition. Anyone can sign. I wish California would think about it. I’d sign just to get rid of them.”

But then you’d not have FR on which to bitch about a state that you know little or noting about! And just think, you’d never have had Ronald Reagan for president either. You are probably upset because when we fly back and forth across the country, we use the restroom on the plane when it’s overhead just hoping that the plane doesn’t have a holding tank.

Its a running joke in Russian forums for the past month. Crimea is pronounced “Cream” in Russian, so they call Alaska “Ice-Cream” as in it is next to be liberated.

“Alaska will be GIVEN to China for debt forgiveness...”

China owes us dramatically more than we’ve ever borrowed from them. Start charging them for stolen designs, patents that weren’t respected, etc. etc. Further, take away Western markets to buy what they’re making with cheap labor in a top down totalitarian governed economy, and charge them for their cheating when it comes to fair trade and open markets, and they owe us a ton.

And I suppose there are 30,000 fools in Alaska just like every other state in the Union.
