Plans to beach a giant inflatable whale beside the Thames in London for a re-enactment of the story of Jonah have been refused because it would be too religious.
Organisers had hoped to place the 50ft sperm whale, which is owned by a circus troupe, in a park opposite Tower Bridge during the school summer holidays. The life-size creature, which children can explore inside, has been beached on the same spot in the past as part of a pirate-themed attraction for children.
Actors were being lined up to play Jonah and other characters as part of an ambitious drive by the Bible Society to help reintroduce a new generation of children to once familiar stories.
It follows research showing that children are increasingly unable to identify Bible stories such as Noahs Ark or Moses which were once a basic childhood staple.

I’ll never understand how secular authorities that are dead-set against religion could ever expect people to get married before having children, or feel any obligation towards a “common good”. The West is seeing firsthand the results of removing Judeo-Christian values from a society. Godless gibsmedats with no concern beyond themselves is hardly a civil society...
Yeah this anti-religious or should I say pro-Satanic stuff is getting way out of hand....i mean really? Do the guys who protest this stuff have a life?
“Do the guys who protest this stuff have a life?”
I doubt it, but the far left is much smaller than they let on. Politicians bow before them because they are vocal, but they are by no means a majority.
NYC’s Central Park used to have a Children’s Zoo that was all Biblical. You went from the Whale to Noah’s Ark and I forget all the others. It got replaced by an environmentally themed children’s zoo a while back. I didn’t even realize it at the time, but it was probably for the same reasons that people are objecting in London.
But they bend over and accept it with pleasure from the muzzies who rule britain today, good luck!
I’ve been raised with a conscience, so I know and confess my sins.
I hereby confess to stealing “Godless Gibsmedats.”
You are pardoned (though I myself “borrowed” gibsmedats from other FReepers)...
“In England, it is not so much secular authorities acting out of some PC view point, as Islamic activists who object to those authorities. Since England - like the EU - is on the verge of becoming a muslim country, this sort of behavior is to be expected and to increase.”
Much of the Old Testament is part of Islam; I don’t see them opposing this. They prevented an anti-Christian movie from airing (maybe “The Last Temptation of Christ”?) on the grounds that they view Jesus as a prophet.
Its time to go on the offensive and stop being on the defensive because you always lose ground every time. Also everytime they try to take away something like a Constitutional right we should counter with two items for their one like putting prayer back in shool and teaching the Constitition or setup special committees to ensure that U.S. history is not being rewritten and taught incorrectly to our children to push a proggressive wet dream agenda.
secular authorities no longer exist in England ... they’re all mufti’s and mullahs.
All the while they allow Islam to flourish.
Replace it with a giant inflatable statue of Mohammed.
To further complicate the reading and understanding of the Quran, the first given and second given are mixed in the book. Worse yet, it is absolutely necessary to read the other books of Islam in order to understand what the Quran is actually saying. These are the Hadiths and Sunnahs, composed of these books: Talibari, Muslim, Isaq and Bukhari.
To most easily understand the Quran, just read Mein Kampf which is a gentler, Germanized version of the all five Islamic books.
There is absolutely no similarity between the Christians view of the Old Testament and the Islamic view of the few (and superseded) parts of the Quran which are similar.
Likewise, there is no similarity between Christ and Muhammad, nor between the Christian G-d and the muslim’s allah.
England is far more PC and Islamizied that the States. The ‘authorities’ being under that sway, are just doing muslim’s bidding - muslims who likely to see all such things physically representing religious themes as anathema - to be destroyed or banned.
Banning something on the grounds you mention is just so much taqiyya - lying in defense of Islam and furthering the spread of Islam.
If a bunch of naked hippies gathered ‘rpund and said they were protesting whale hunting this would be fine. Freedom of speech right?
“You’ve got that backward - much of the Quran was plagiarized from the Old Testament.”
I don’t have it backwards; one follows the lineage of Isaac and one follows Ishmael, so up to that point it is shared (though recorded by Jewish people long before Mohammed was born). I don’t think Christians “plagiarized” the Old Testament; our faith is derived in part from it as a shared source (with both Jews, and to a lesser extent, Muslims - for the reason outlined above).
“To most easily understand the Quran, just read Mein Kampf which is a gentler, Germanized version of the all five Islamic books.”
I have read Mein Kampf; there is nothing religious about it (even in terms of Jewish people, who Hitler regards as practically atheists). It is the angry rantings of a very bitter man. I haven’t read the Koran, but I can’t imagine they are similar; my understanding of the Koran is that it includes revelations to Mohammed from God.
“There is absolutely no similarity between the Christians view of the Old Testament and the Islamic view of the few (and superseded) parts of the Quran which are similar. Likewise, there is no similarity between Christ and Muhammad, nor between the Christian G-d and the muslims allah.”
Mohammed and Jesus are both regarded as prophets by Muslims (with Mohammed being more important); like Jewish people, Muslims don’t believe the Son of God has come yet. They share similar dietary restrictions from the Old Testament as well.
I agree; the strategy of the last few decades has resulted in death by a thousand cuts. They keep their offensive going by pushing the most outlandish, indefensible positions (affirmative action using racial quotas, abortion for minors without parental notification, etc.) so that if they lose the most ridiculous ones they still have everything else.
The Quran was an oral tradition, recorded on various tapestries, etc for 200 years before it was codified in the Syriac language around 800 AD then translated into Arabic. The mistranslation is how Islam got its famous 72 ‘virgins’ - in Syriac it was ‘white raisins’ - a valuable and rare commodity at the time.
Mein Kampf is or was supposed to be the beginning or basis for a new Teutonic religion headed by Himmler and Co; to understand this point, one must place oneself in the context of the time and place. Reading from today's POV will have the result you found.
In fact, Mein Kampf became more a political statement, a policy guide - if you will - then a religious tract. One could view it either way. Same for the Quran. Both are statements of control; one under the State, the other under allah - there is no difference in that regard. Thus I say they are the same, with Mein Kampf being a plagiarized version of the Quran - the Second Given Half. After the Quran, Mein Kampf is the best selling book in the muslim world. For a more able and eloquent analysis read Prophet of Doom available free.
All the parts you reference as being shared from the Old Testament are in the First Given Half of the Quran. The may be shared, but Muhammad specifically invalidated the first given, saying only the Second Given Half should be followed, since it was the last words of allah and therefore supreme, superseding all which was previously given. It is this second half which forms the basis of true Islam and why many muslims (estimated to be between 10 and 20% or around 120 million to 240 million followers) either follow it, speak taqiyya, or silently support it.
The Quran does not speak of revelations per se, but of codes of personal and social behavior dictated by allah, the determinator of all things as spoken to Muhammad by Gabriel.
However, a simple reading of the Quran - without reading the Hadiths and Sunnahs - will not reveal any meanings of what was spoken by Gabriel; one will come away believing Islam and Christianity are similar and that Islam in a religion of peace. It is important to note that IS the historically intended result; a result which good-hearted and well-meaning Christians and Jews are intended to come away believing and thus ripened for the slaughters to come.
While you use my lines about similarity of Christ and Muhammad, you did not address the central premise: they are fundamentally and historically opposites. Simply saying they are both regarded as prophets by muslims misses the point: Christ is an affirmation of life, Muhammad is an affirmation of death.
I was once of your persuasion on Islam, then I read more - for a Christian, it is a difficult road. The alternative is much worse: convert, be killed, or pay jazeera to the muslim Arab Master Race (how they see themselves) and live as a dhimmi (a second class citizen without any rights or a slave). They are counting on Christians to remain ignorant or too preoccupied, or too lazy to educate themselves.
