Hours after hundreds protested the Albuquerque Police Departments use of force Tuesday evening, officers opened fire on a man near Central and Coors. The man died at the hospital, police said Wednesday morning.
He becomes the 23rd man since 2010 shot and killed by Albuquerque Police, which is being investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice for its use of force
Neighbors at the scene of Tuesdays shooting were shocked and outraged. They said officers shot the man while he was unarmed and talking on a cellphone.
A video shot by a neighbor appears to show a man in a white shirt on a porch holding a cellphone to his right ear before dropping his arm to his side in the seconds before shots ring out. The man appears to fall to the ground after the sound of the gunfire.
Officers responded to 911 calls saying the suspect had pointed a gun at a child shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday at a home on the 200 block of 60th NW, [APD Chief] Eden said.
He said the man exited (the house) with a firearm and fired it, before officers returned fire.

I rented near there for 6 months whilst working at Honeywell about 10 years ago. I did not go out after dark
unless I was driving.

Walter White, RIP
One good thing came out of the shooting: all the officers went home safely.
i go there every so often--i have family there in Albuquerque, and other parts of NM... i would do the same as you... it is not somewhere i could live... and even in the day time, while we are visiting, i would not let my sons hang out outside... i have had--i am not kidding--a few cousins die violent deaths in Albuquerque... the last one happened less than two years ago... my cousin's son was shot and killed over $20.00...
Gonna have to outlaw them things!

I hope someone checks to see if the gun was last known to be in a police evidence locker.
Unfortunately the chief is only parroting the story by officers involved. The sisters story should be given as weight as the officers version. But as usual everyone but the officer involved story will be brushed off as emotional and unreliable. Even when there multiple witnesses report the very same thing. The single involved is considered to be more reliable. But that has become all too often the case these days. Too quick to brush the evidence aside and no-bill the officer and move on to the next officer involved shooting. IMO there are just too many emotionally unstable people are getting jobs as police officers who are not qualified to carry deadly firearms.
That's not the only type of video out there. On one of my hobby sites, a member has a very small quadcopter with a camera. He flies it and downloads photos/videos to his smartphone. Won't be long before we will see them over crime scenes and standoffs too.
re: #11 - even proof reading I still made several errors. Admin, if you like you can delete #11 as it barely makes sense, at least it didn’t turn to be what I intended.
There have been 160 murders in Albuquerque from 2010 through 2013. In that time, there were 22 people killed by police.
They apparently spared the dog.
It hasn’t improved.
Every year, I grow less and less convinced that’s necessarily a good thing. Some of these cops are cold-blooded killers.
Must be a tough area. Trying to search on this turned up a lot of results, including quite a few cops getting shot.
More cops running wild in NM. Good governor but the state voted bambi twice. Indians and liberal Los Alamos Santa Fe hippie pin heads?? I won’t spend a dime in any state that voted for Ubama.
They flat-out executed the guy.
I'll bet one of the Fat Blue-Costumed Donut Barrage Balloons accidentally pulled the trigger on a weapon he shouldn't have had in his steroid-enhanced, sugar-donut trembling mitts, and then all the rest of the crazed cop gunmen had to pull the triggers on their handguns and assault rifles, too.
Why do so many cops look like blimps?
