Then why do we have some what were considered to be credible military personnel saying that they had multiple indications the plane landed in Pakistan previously? I have seen or heard nothing from the General who confidently asserted this last week - even to the extent of giving a 24-48 hr time frame for it to be confirmed.

Anytime I see somebody reference The General as part of this story I always think of the episode of The Prisoner.
