NORFOLK, Va. — A sailor was shot and killed at Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia and security forces killed the male civilian suspect, a base spokeswoman said.

Unfortunately, Red, that’s the long and short of it. Even Navy sailors are targets when they’re all disarmed by orders. “Security Forces” are at best minutes away when seconds count.
Odds are this will involve romance gone bad.

Good thing ‘we’ can’t blame the Marines for allowing a ‘gun’ aboard - not only the base but a ship.
If shooting aboard ship why was Security Force involved? (OR do they call the base MAA and Marine Personnel aboard the base and ships ‘Security Force’?
I hear Security Force and I ‘picture’ the normal cadre of Civilian Security Police that man(oops woman) most gates.

Ships have watches on board and on the pier that are armed, either with Baretta or M-16. Most likely that was the “security forces” that got the shooter.

US Aircraft Carriers are strategic assets. Historically, any act of war committed against them required a nuclear response. There was a photo posted somewhere last week showing about 5 or 6 aircraft carriers docked in a row there in Norfolk Naval Station.. Tight little target for Putin or that Iranian warship off the east coast.
