It seems the words of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warning that the world stands on the brink of conflict, the consequences of which are not foreseen... Not everyone in Europe is aware of this situation," are a little more real than some (US equity buyers) might suspect. As The Week's Crispin Black reports, at least 7,000 Polish workers in Europe have received call-up papers as army reservists in the last few weeks. Polish authorities dismiss it as "routine" but the men note this has never happened before.
As The Week's Crispin Black goes on to note,
At least 7,000 reservists have been recalled to the colours for immediate exercises lasting between 10 and 30 days.
Theyre told by the Polish authorities that the call-ups are routine: but the men say they havent been asked before and theyre well aware of the growing alarm in Warsaw at President Putins aggression.
Three weeks ago, their Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, called a press

I believe you’re right that Putin has figured out how to increase defense spending in Europe. Scare the crap out of everyone. It’s absolutely clear to me that while many posters on this site see Putin as benign; they do not give Putin a pass on this one. As someone who lives in Europe, I can tell you this action in Crimea was a big wake up call.
It says,
“To arms,
Gather and united we will defeat our enemy!”
Prayers for Poland!
With a weak leader, like Obama, who might want this as well, anything can happen.
I hope it doesn’t come to that, but there is a joke in Poland.
Q: If Germany and Russia both attack Poland, who do we kill first?
A: Germany. Business before pleasure.
In Estonia we have a system modeled after Finland. In addition to professional military getting experience in Iraq and Afghanistan also every male goes through military training and there are thousands of secret weapons caches in the forests.
Is NATO still operational? NATO used to be the best defense club in the world. Every member was backed by the US and under the American nuclear umbrella.
NATO started to fall apart when Clinton was president. I seem to remember a NATO vs Serbia war. I am still waiting to hear which NATO country was attacked to justify bombing Serbia. It was at that point that NATO started to lose its effectiveness.
The next blow was 9/11. Except for a few notable exceptions (Canada, UK, Germany to an extent) NATO did not immediately spring to America's defense. The only NATO members who fought in Afghanistan (Afghanistan was behind 9/11) were the US, the UK, and Canada.
Add the fact that, under Obama, America's adherence to defense treaties is extremely suspect, and what is left of NATO?
You are wrong!

US: 1750-2155 deaths, 330,000,000 people
UK: 448/63 million
Canada: 157/33 million
The back of my envelope says the UK took the highest ratio of deaths to population. US and Canada were next in line. For comparison Germany, with 80 million people, took 57 killed. Far less than the UK with 63 million people. Either the Germans were highly skilled at not getting killed, or they were not involved in heavy combat like the other three countries cited.
Remember for most of these countries ISAF stood for I Saw Americans Fight.
That was the only time NATO forces were actually used in combat operation on a request of one of the members, so keep your trap shut.
I will say what I want, when I want on this forum.
Back at you.
What about some of those western Ukraine areas that breed Nazis and coups? Poland has had control of them in its past and might benefit from not having them governing on its borders.
Did some calculations.
Deaths per million population
USA 2315/313 = 7.4
UK 448/63.2 = 7.1
Canada 158/34.9 = 4.5
I understand that you want to ignore small countries because they are small?
Denmark 43/5.6 = 7.7
Estonia 9/1.3 = 6.9
The Miracle at the Vistula you are referring to is probably the most under-appreciated event of the 20th century.
The Poles are well aware that the real Fascist problem is Mother Russia.
They are not afraid of Ukraine. The one positive note from this mess is Putin has reinforced the cooperation between Poland and Ukraine.
Good work. I cannot argue with you math. The larger European countries still don’t look so good.
Ukraine also provided combat troops to our fight in Iraq and Afghanistan as well.
Seems like a prudent move. If only for show. Poland is part of NATO. We would be obligated to come to their defense. But I doubt like hell that will be needed. Putin will just pick the low hanging fruit.
“I don’t really understand what you are trying to say.”
LOL ! OK, I will keep it simple for you next time.
It’s okay. I understand it is a tough language to learn to write. Keep at it.
