The United Nations will officially warn that growing crops to make green biofuel harms the environment and drives up food prices, The Telegraph can disclose.
A leaked draft of a UN report condemns the widespread use of biofuels made from crops as a replacement for petrol and diesel. It says that biofuels, rather than combating the effects of global warming, could make them worse.

Lets just go to a single-day nationwide primary where no candidate without $20 million before the process starts has a chance to be heard. Thatll show those GOP-Eers!
Agree 100%.
I recently saw a list that Adelson was narrowing down on and just about got ill. He’s targeting “electable” establishment guys like Jeb Bush? Jeb? A Bush doesn’t have a chance to be elected again for at least 20 years.
The only sustainable economy is one based on surplus — the alternative being rationing, price-fixing, five year plans, and other single party police state tactics.
While I do not wish to argue with such a distinguished gentlemen, the “surplus” error causes great harm to the understanding of economics and the conservative (classical liberal) cause.
The only sustainable economy is one that allows individuals to trade freely according to their preferences. Surpluses are not needed. Trade is not a zero-sum game.
See here: http://www.econtalk.org/archives/2008/10/munger_on_middl.html Take a look at the highlights on that page at 8:27 for the story partially and relevant comment: “Insight: by definition the amount of stuff in the camp is fixed. All trading does is rearrange it. By definition, the quantity of material is zero-sum. If anything it gets smaller by a tiny bit by friction. On the surface, trading is a waste of time, moving stuff around. Yet every person traded in hopes of improving their lot.”

You will very much enjoy the story, its economic insights and, given the history from WW2 it might be worth a separate post and discussion.
You’ll see that it is preferences coupled with free trade that cause economic benefits. Surpluses aren’t required. Liberals use the “surplus” argument to push all their policies. The love zero sum and we should hate it.
Thanks for the gracious reply and the links!
Yup. And that's why we have that Ethanol crap ruining our engines.
NOTHING is as GREEN as a gallon of GASOLINE!!!
Honda is recalling lots of minivans due to a part in the fuel system that has corroded, perhaps? Makes me wonder if ethanol did that damage. We only put REAL gas in our vehicles. Can’t stand that ethanol crap.
Finding real 100% gasoline is a chore due to EPA regional mandates.
Yes, in many states it is tough. Try the pure gas website. It isn’t always up to date, but it gives a listing of places that sell real gas in the various states. In some states, people might have to go to an airport or a marina to find real gas. We are fortunate here. Several stations sell it.
