Shelley Moore Capito largely has avoided national attention. Now her U.S. Senate race has raised her profile as one of the Republican Party's best hopes to tip the chamber's balance of power.
The party could win a narrow majority this fall if it holds onto its 45 Senate seats and takes six of the 55 held by Democrats, including that of West Virginia's Jay Rockefeller, who is retiring.
She is one of the few moderate candidates out there and has the right profile in this state to become the first Republican senator since the 1950s.
If she beats her Democratic challenger, Secretary of State Natalie Tennant, Capito would become the state's first female senator; she was its first female in Congress with her election to the 2nd District seat. She and Tennant have underfunded challengers with low name recognition in their parties' May primary.
My race for Congress in 2000 was so close, so close. But I knew if I won, it was big, not because it was me but because I was a Republican, which meant ... all of those straight-ticket party voters started listening to the message and the messenger,
Democratic registration remains 2-to-1 in the state, but Bill Clinton was the last Democrat to win the presidential race here in 1996 by a solid 15 percent. Four years later, George W. Bush won by nearly 7 percentage points, and subsequent GOP nominees won with increasing margins. Now under President Obama, folks have started saying, Hey, wait a minute, I am losing my job' or My health care (insurance cost) is going up,' Capito said. Our voters here now are doing what you want them to do you want them to cross over and vote for the right person.

Don’t matter, the RINO’s will form a new “gang of X” and it will still be a pit for all house bills.
If you don’t have 60, then you got gridlock.
Agree on the gridlock, but if we send Ted, Mike and Rand enough reinforcements, and Mitch is still the leader he then has to deal with a Conservative Faction possibly as big or greater than the RINO's. If he wins, he may rue the day he won his re-election. If he looses IMHO one of our firebrands runs for it and gets it or makes a good showing to remind the RINO's you don't own us.
The Gridlock would stop Obama to a point, but Bills would now make it to the Senate floor for Debate and eventually Veto which would show even more who and what Obama is. Set the stage for 2016 perhaps, especially if a free-market health care reform bill makes it to him or 2 or 3 versions do and he veto's them instead of a signing like Clinton did with Welfare Reform. He might even wake up the LI voters that he is an ideologue at that point...
> If you dont have 60, then you got gridlock.
Considering the drek masquerading as legislation coming out of the Congress pretty much all my 60+ years on this earth, gridlock is good.
May they never pass another new bill, without first repealing all the nonsense they’ve passed since the turn of the 20th century, including legislation to repeal the 13th, 14th, 16th, and 17th amendments.
Just a dream, I know.
This woman spoke at my son’s graduation from Hampden-Sydney College. She didn’t sound like a moderate to me.
The NRCC has already declared that it will spend whatever it takes to defeat Tea Party primary challengers to its hand picked Main Street Republican establishment candidate.
West Virginians are being used as pawns by the establishment GOP. Its like we don’t even deserve a choice. Cold day in hell before I vote for Capito! Other people are saying it too.
The dem running will even be more conservative than the NRCCs choice. So it boils down to voting for a conservative dem or voting for a progressive GOPe choice. Sorry if senate control hangs in the balance, but the NRCC caused this. It should stay out of WV primaries.

That’s how RINOs operate.
Fake right, vote left.
Look at the policies she supports and the votes she’s cast. That’s where the rubber meets the road.
You nailed it. All the constitutionalists need is 5 or 6 more and McConnell, if he wins, would have to deal with them.
Actually, 6 or 7 would do, since we have to consider the back stabbers like McCain and Graham are leftists.
So 9 to overturn the senate and minus two, to counter the back stabbers. Or aint I counting right here?
Are you really saying that Capito is to the left of Tennant? Just curious! I don’t know WV politics, but that would seem rather rare to happen! (or is Tennant feinting conservative, to govern progressive?)
Capito may not be ideologically conservative, but Democrat Natalie Tennant is so far left-wing that she has been actively supported by George Soros and the radical pro-abortion PACs. Anyone who supports Tennant for US Senate is insane, and we are very happy that we have a good strong candidate to oppose her. This can be predicted to have VERY dirty election tactics by the Democrats.
Fake right, vote left.
Look at the policies she supports and the votes shes cast. Thats where the rubber meets the road.
What is your gut feeling at this point in the campaign? Do you think Capito is going to take this seat? Are there enough people who loathe Barack Obama and ObamaCare, that they will vote Republican in an off-year election? Give us some input please.
So it boils down to voting for a conservative dem or voting for a progressive GOPe choice.

TO: FreeInWV - - I just found out today that Capito is a Moderate. But, to hell with anyone who even associates with the Party that takes God out of their platform, loves a whore monger and rapist like Bill Clinton, idolizes a Marxist punk like Barack Obama, propagates same-sex marriage and killing little unborn babies. Ever heard that “Birds of a feather flock together”? There is no such thing as a damn “conservative Democrat”. You are who you associate with. If I hang around with drug dealers, you can bet I do drugs. Conservative Democrat my ass.

Thanks Din Maker.
Shelley Moore Capito Doesn’t Worry Much About the Tea Party
And unlike most Republicans in Washington, the West Virginia Senate hopeful isn’t obsessed with being labeled “conservative,” either.

She’s planning on modeling herself after Lisa MurCOWski?
The only thing positive you could say about her election is she would be voting against Harry Reid for Majority Leader.
She will be part of the MurCOWski, Susan Collins, McCain, et al. reach-across-the-aisle cabal.
Tennant’s a crook. She overlooked vote fraud in at least one county. Eff the bitch!
Those who actually read the page here:

Noticed that she opposed Obamacare, tried to protect coal industry jobs, voted for the Bush tax cuts, and opposed the greenhouse gas BS.
But nice try.
A narrow GOP majority means nothing.
The usual GOP RINO’s will vote with the Rats most of the time.
