A social studies workbook, used in an Illinois public middle school, is generating controversy among gun rights supporters because it claims that the Second Amendment permits only strictly regulated, registered gun ownership.
A screenshot of the workbook was first posted to the Facebook page for Illinois Gun Owners Rights. It provides the following description of the Second Amendment:

However....The indoctrination of the next generation of our nation's children is bigger than our kids. The votes of our children will be swamped by the tsunami of the ill-informed.
Nearly every teacher in this nation was trained by godless Marxists in Marxist run colleges and education. This is also true for private schooling. While surely not every teacher is a Marxist, their training does leak through into the classroom, curriculum, and school policies.
While conservatives and Christians run around like flies chasing the latest political issue of the day, the Marxists are laughing at us. They have the kids.
You are one of the few who “get it”.
While conservatives and Christians run around like ants who have had their ant hill kicked, chasing one political issue after another, the Marxists laugh. They have the kids.
Exactly. It drives me nuts when some libtard starts a debate about the 2A with what it does or doesn’t grant. WRONG! The 2A does not grant anything. It expressly forbids the government from infringing on our rights. To me that means restrictions on features, magazines, calibre, ammunition, styles, background checks, training requirements, locks, permits to carry, etc are all unconstitutional.
The point is that a lesson on the Bill of Rights should cover what is actually in the Amendment language - not what this or that state has done in any area related to the enumerated rights.
Actually, in a way, I would like to see a lesson on the Declaration covering the inalienable rights - life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Consistency would require “However the right to life is routinely denied to babies in their mothers wombs as well as certain helpless people with medical conditions. Various powers and jurisdictions may deny this right to these individuals. Expansion of this power, for the greater, good is ongoing”
Yes, the NRA, conservatives, and Christians may be able to suppress this one text in this one school. But....It's like playing Wack-A-Mole at the county fair. As the communists pop back into their hole another will pop up elsewhere.
What is needed is fundamental change!
Work to completely shut down compulsory K-12 government schooling. It is EVIL. It is a godless single-payer, and socialist-entitlement. It is our nation's and freedom's MOST serious threat. Seriously!
Every human being in history was born with the right to effectively defend themself from those more powerful, more numerous and less-principled than themselves.
The Second Amendment merely protects that right; it does not grant the right.
You are right.
So?....What do we do about the problem of communists indoctrinating our nation’s children and future voters?
Yup. Sadly the progressives keep pushing that “rights” are granted even though “we” know better.
You are right.
So?....What can be done about the Marxist indoctrination of the nation’s children and its future voters?
Metmom, I am exasperated! Godless, single-payer, and socialist-entitlement schooling is EVIL. Yet,....Day after day these abominations are stuffed full to the brim with the children of conservatives and Christians.
I call them SS indoctrination centers. ( Single-payer and Socialist-entitlement “schools”)
In many counties and even entire states, if Christians and conservatives simply removed their kids from these SS indoctrination centers, the entire corrupt system of government SS indoctrination would **immediately** collapse!
Some, even on our side, claim that Amendment Two protects only the right to own non-crew-operated infantry weapons.
Were that the case, how would one implement a Letter of Marque issued by Congress under Article I Section 8 of the Constitution? That generally required an Eighteenth-century equivalent of a battleship, complete with cannon and crew.
There were also a number of privately owned forts (generally called stockades) built complete with cannons both built by and staffed by civilians.
Parents, get your children out of these marxist public indoctrination centers.
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.Period.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
That’s one of our major problems as a nation. Taking back the schools and the media is going to be an incredibly arduous task. It will likely take several generations to undo the damage done by the left.
In the grand scheme of history, however, we should all realize that civilizations have generally defaulted to tyranny. Promises of protection and prosperity are common to every era of human history. Humanity has a very high tolerance for pain, unfortunately it’s often to their detriment and death.
The very foundation upon which government schooling is built is socialist-entitlement that is single-payer, compulsory-use, and compulsory-funded.
This can't be reformed. It must be abolished and replaced with private schools that are not brick and mortar based and run like prisons.
I would not be very surprised to find out the NRA gave some support to the text — notice how their primary focus is on scar-tactics to raise money.
