In a question and answer session at Stanford Center at Peking University in Beijing, China, First Lady Michelle Obama said that sometimes one needs to do things she's uncomfortable with. She made the comments in response to a question about studying abroad.
"For me, I prefer to -- the relationship -- the commerce relationship between -- and the future. So in this program, I think I cannot only learn about the language, the American cultures, but also I can take some courses on this field. So in this way, I cannot promote myself on this field, but also, what is most important I think is to learn -- to understand -- to make a better understanding on the United States cultureand people.
And I think its really important for people, especially young generation, to have some time to go abroad, to live and study there so in this way they can build a deeper understanding with each other," said a graduate student at Peking University.
The first lady responded, "Excellent. And one thing that you pointed out that I think its important to consider is not letting fear be your guide. Andthats oftentimes what holds many young people back from doing fabulous things.
Lets take my husband, for example. He has dragged me kicking and screaming into things that I wanted no parts of. (Laughter.) And a lot of it was because of fear -- the fear of making mistakes, the fear of not knowing, the fear of uncertainty, the fear of leaving your comfort zone.
And were living in a world where we can no longer afford to let fear keep us apart, because the truth -- what I have learned, coming from the background I come from -- I grew up in a little apartment on the South Side of Chicago. My parents didnt get a chance to go to college, but they poured everything they had into me. And no one could have envisioned that a kid like me would be sitting here, having given a speech at Peking University as the First Lady of the United States.
But easily, fear could have blocked me at every turn. So I want all of the young people around the world to operate with the freedom that we have all fought for -- the freedom to explore the world, to learn about new cultures, to try hard things, to make mistakes. And I know parents want you to be perfect because we want you to be safe -- (laughter) -- but life is about making mistakes, and maybe saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, and learning that you recover from even some of your worst mistakes, so that that fear doesnt keep you from being as excellent as you can be.
And thats what I think study abroad -- its that first step of leaving your country, speaking another language, having it come out of your voice, your lips, and having someone here actually understand you. And you think, well, that wasnt that bad.
So I want you -- first of all, I just want to applaud you all for being that brave, and for being a role model to other young people of what the world needs in you as leaders. So dont be afraid. Start with your parents.
Michelle Obama is in China with her mother and daughters to talk about education.
That is a really good point.
Actually.
I do NOT have anything to do with liberals. That’s how I found peaceful solitude. They simply won’t shut up. I got tired of being disrespected. They’ll start talking about how they love Obama when they know I hate him. They’ll talk about how much they hate Sarah Palin when they know I like her. You can ask them politely to not talk about it and they’ll ignore you. But if you jump back in their faces they’ll accuse you of being a prick.
I simply can’t stand to be around them and won’t! Why hang around someone who mistreats you? Why hang around someone whom you detest? Why hang around idiots?
Do you really think she is stupid? I don’t. If I did I would not be concerned about her ambitions.

I do a fair amount of writing and I am constantly editing my work. I tried to read the first few pages of her thesis but found I could not concentrate on the substance because I started playing ‘spot the needed revisions’. I wager that she wrote that in one sitting and never reviewed it. This is what Princeton finds passable?!?

Well said! Lie/farce/fraud = the left's modus operandi.
Ergo, the MO for MO.
5th grade graduate. She cannot write a gramatically correct phrase. She probably never heard of syntax.
Yes, and assuming that he was outed at some point she surely had to swallow hard to digest that revelation. Metro? I would be amazed if it stopped there. Closet-gay, Marxist, narcissist in chief describes him perfectly, but all I had to know was that he throws like a girl.
Very true.
God help us all!
I’m fed up with this term “First Lady of the United States”.
She’s a nobody. No one elected her to anything. The US is not a monarchy.
On my list of the US genuine ladies, I can’t find her name.
After Clinton’s second election, I promised myself that I would not be friends with anyone who is an avowed Rat. There were some people we were somewhat friendly with who quickly made it onto my list, and we no longer see them.
Sad to say, I do have some relatives who vote progressive, and I cannot divorce them, but we have all agreed on the rule for our gatherings: No politics. Very difficult for me, but I am getting there.
If I am in a social situation and politics comes up, I just say, “Can we not discuss politics?” So far, it has worked on the few occasions I have had to invoke it.
Well, I have to snort at calling her a lady of any sort.
As for your comment that the US is not a monarchy, my answer is “Yet....”
I guess I must have it confused with something that sounds similar. I danged sure can’t afford that price.
“I do NOT have anything to do with liberals.”
That’s a very wise decision.
Liberals only love democracy when it suits their purpose. For instance, if they thought the Crimeans would vote to stay within Ukraine, they would have supported the referendum 100%.
I think the best attitude is to be a free-thinker, outside of parties, groups or any other form of collective thinking.
I think they are not stupid as in IQ stupid.
I think that Michelle Obama is definitely affirmative action material. We saw what happened when she was turned loose on a microphone in 2008 with "For the first time I am proud of my country..." She lacks class. She is, relatively speaking, people stupid and would fail miserably in a campaign without double the amount of the handlers and media protection. Frankly, I believe as a political candidate, she will not play well in Peoria.
Hillary Clinton is clever like a criminal, that is, cunning. She was corrupt from the beginning of her career and remains so. She is not nearly as savvy as Bill Clinton. As a political candidate on the national stage, she will ultimately reveal herself as cranky and bitter. The DNC wants her as a presidential candidate but I am not sure America will.
Frankly, I believe as a political candidate, she will not play well in Peoria.

Why not? The communist community organizer got elected twice. The Rats would be thrilled to have a twofer as candidate, and their Ministry of Propaganda, formerly known as the MSM, will continue the work they have perfected over the last several years.
Besides, the Rats know how to count the votes and where to add in some where they are needed.
?..that’s why I waste millions on taxpayer funded vacations. Make whitey pay for the awful coutry I live in.
(Piece, out...suckahs)
You said it much better than I could.
